(Former?) AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note accessories maker: Nothing to see here!

6

The accessories manufacturer that prematurely confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy Note is coming to AT&T has since retracted said leak. According to a new release from Anymode, the previous statement that it was "recently named [an] OEM vendor for many of [Samsung's] Galaxy Note accessories" was released in error and "the information was not provided by Anymode, AT&T or Samsung, nor did Anymode, AT&T or Samsung approve it."

Here's the full statement:

RETRACTION OF EARLIER CES ANNOUNCEMENT

JANUARY 6, 2012 --The January 5, 2012 CES Media Alert titled "Anymode Introduces First Accessories for Samsung Galaxy Note" contained inaccurate information pertaining to AT&T and the release of the Samsung Galaxy Note.

The information was not provided by Anymode, AT&T or Samsung , nor did Anymode, AT&T or Samsung approve it.

The issuing party apologizes for the publishing of the inaccurate information and any inconvenience it may have caused.

Interesting, indeed. Is there a rogue PR rep running the streets, spilling beans by day and fighting crime by night? Has anybody checked Wikileaks latety?

And does this retraction mean we won't see an AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note? Oh, we're pretty sure it's out there. Does that mean we won't be seeing any Anymode accessories? Confidence is high. Repeat: Confidence is high.

This is what the white Galaxy Nexus looks like

29

This morning UK retailer Clove gives us our first proper look at the white Samsung Galaxy Nexus, with some real, official promotional images. You might notice it's a bit different to the picture that was doing the rounds previously -- turns rival retailer MobileFun fudged things yesterday and used a fan render on their site rather than an official photo.

In any case, what you see above is in fact what'll start shipping in the UK during the week commencing Feb. 6. Clove's asking price for the white Nexus is £500 (~$780), which is about the same as you'll pay for the black version in the UK right now.

32GB GSM Galaxy Nexus coming early February, says UK retailer

5

In addition to the recently-outed white Galaxy Nexus and Sprint 4G LTE Galaxy Nexus, it seems like the elusive 32GB GSM version is now on the horizon, too. So far all the GSM-flavored Nexuses sold in Europe and Asia (and imported into the U.S.) have been of the 16GB variety, but according to one British retailer, the 32GB version should be available in a little over a month.

On its official blog, Handtec reveals that the first batch of 32GB Nexuses is expected during the week commencing Feb. 6. That just happens to be the same week the 16GB white Galaxy Nexus is due to land in the UK. Pricing is still up in the air, but we've seen the 32GB model listed elsewhere for an eye-watering £600 (~$930), so you'll likely pay a pretty penny for that extra 16GB of storage if you take the plunge next month.

Samsung Galaxy Note case vendor confirms phone coming to AT&T

23

We joke about the mountain of spam we get when CES rolls around, but it can pay off to read through it. The folks at Slashgear spotted more confirmation that the Samsung Galaxy Note (read our full review) will be headed to AT&T, and we've doubly confirmed in our own pile of e-mails we had no intention of reading.

The line in question is as follows:

Anymode is introducing its accessories into the North American market for the first time at CES. AT&T recently named Anymode as OEM vendor for many of its Galaxy Note accessories. Samsung has shipped more than one million Galaxy Notes globally as of December 2011. The Note is expected to be available in the United States in early 2012 through AT&T.

So, look for this bad boy to be announced Monday at AT&T's developer event, no doubt. We'll be there as it all goes down.

LG Spectrum rumored for Verizon on Jan. 19

11

While nothing is official until Verizon says it's official -- especially when you're talking about Verizon -- it looks like we'll be seeing the LG Spectrum hitting the shelves at Big Red soon.  It's a worthy upgrade from the LG Revolution, with hot specs on a hot network -- 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon, 1GB RAM, full HD 4.5-inch IPS display, LTE radio and special HD content from Netflix and ESPN.  The only thing not to love here is that it looks to launch with Gingerbread, and we know all about LG and updates.  Look for a possible announcement at CES -- we'll be there, ready and waiting to find out more.

LTE Galaxy Nexus for Sprint shown off in online advertisement

57

More in the Sprint Galaxy Nexus forums!

Want an LTE Galaxy Nexus, but don't want to switch away from Sprint?  That's understandable, we should always stick with the carrier who works best for us.  Here's some (possibly) good news -- just a little while after Sprint announced their initial markets for LTE, the above ad for a Sprint LTE Galaxy Nexus appeared on the web, and there's another version showing a 1.5GHz processor, slightly faster than the 1.2GHz proc in the current versions.  We've always said that each carrier would likely announce their own version of the GNex, and if this is more than just a mean-spirited prank we just may hear a bit more at CES come next week.  Or not -- CTIA often is Sprint's big show. In the meantime, feel free to speculate and/or dance with joy.

Gorilla Glass 2 coming to CES, smartphones later

6

Corning, the folks behind Gorilla Glass, has just announced that they will be unveiling Gorilla Glass 2 next week at CES.  They haven't let out a lot of product details just yet, but we're pretty sure all the scratch-resistant toughness will still be there, and likely made even better with the new generation.  We'll know for sure next week, as we'll be having a close look at their booth -- complete with an 82-inch multi-touch display where folks can go hands on with some tough-ass glass.  In the meantime, the full press release and promo video are after the break.

Touch-based unofficial ClockworkMod recovery now available for the Galaxy Nexus

5

Youtube link for mobile viewing

If you hack or flash ROMs and various "stuff" to your Android phone, you know about ClockworkMod recovery+Nathan Grebowiec has just taken it a step further, and built an unofficial version for the Galaxy Nexus (both versions) that uses the capacitive buttons while inside recovery.  It still does all the same functions as the original, and you can even restore backups made from previous versions, but now you can do it without using the volume keys.

Is it really necessary?  Nope.  But it's cool, and how open-source works.  Nathan took the source code and modified it (and we're sure Nathan will share the source code once it's out of "alpha") to do something he wanted or needed.  Seems like it works rather well, so if you're interested, grab it at the link below.

White Samsung Galaxy Nexus sighted in the UK, due early February

13

Out of the blue today, we're seeing reports of two major British online retailers listing a white (GSM, 16GB) Samsung Galaxy Nexus for launch in just over a month. MobileFun and Clove both show the device with a £500-ish (~$775) price tag, and Clove says it's expecting stock from the week commencing Feb. 6. MobileFun also has a handy promotional shot of the phone, showing that the white Galaxy Nexus not only exists, but looks like a white Galaxy Nexus.

There's no word yet on when (or even if) Verizon will offer a CDMA/LTE version in white, but the good news for importers is that the white GSM version should be a pentaband model, just like the original. If you've yet to pick up a Galaxy Nexus, let us know in the comments if the prospect of owning a shinier version in a different color could push you over the edge.
