Hot on the heels of the Nexus One getting an update, the Nexus S is now in the throes of a 17.5-megabyte download that brings Android 2.3.6 (build GRK39C) along with "bug fixes and security patches." Should just take a couple minutes to update, and then you'll be able to go back to lording it over your friends that you have the latest update, and they're still twiddling their thumbs.
Looks like this indeed fixes some of the tethering issues we'd been seeing, which is nice. And if you crack open the zip file you'll see patches to just about everything -- with the biggest changes to the NFC function
If you're not in a waiting mood, we've got manual install instructions after the break.
The Galaxy Player 4.0 and 5.0 are 4- and 5-inch Android 2.3.5 devices, respectively -- basically smartphones without the phone. The Galaxy Player 5.0 sports a massive 2500 mAh battery, while the 4.0 has a meager 1200 mAh battery.
Dunno about you, but if I were looking for a job with Research in Motion -- as in the folks who make the BlackBerry -- I'm not sure if I'd turn to an Android app to do so. But that's exactly what Jobs in Motion does. It's a relatively nice Android app that shows you the latest RIM job openings, lets you share and save them, and even ties into Twitter, Facebook and Linked In.
And probably the most ironic thing? It looks about 100 times better on an Android smartphone than on a BlackBerry. Go figure.
Pre-sale starts online Oct. 10; phone is NFC-capable
T-Mobile this afternoon announced the HTC Amaze 4G (aka the HTC Ruby) -- a 4.3-inch powerhouse that will run on TMo's HSPA+ 42Mbps 4G network. In addition to the aforementioned display (which is a Super LCD at qHD resolution), the Amaze 4G has a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 processor pushing Android 2.3.4 and HTC Sense (with T-Mobile TV and HTC Watch thrown in for good measure). Add in the excellent camera hardware and software we first saw in the MyTouch 4G Slide, and this one is sure to attract a bit of attention.
Not enough power? The Amaze 4G also sports NFC (near field communication) for mobile payments, tags and the like, making it only one of a few handsets with the feature. (T-Mobile's Nexus S is another.)
The HTC Amaze 4G will be available for pre-sale starting Oct. 10, and in stores Oct. 12. It'll cost $259.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and two-year contract. Full press release is after the break.
First and foremost, it'll be available in stores Oct. 12 for $229.99 -- after $50 rebate and with a two-year contract. You can preorder it online starting Oct. 10.
As for more details, T-Mobile had previously been pretty mum on things -- to the point locking down the phone under glass at Samsung's launch event. But today we learn that it indeed has a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor running Android 2.3.4. The phone has NFC capabilities and can show Netflix, T-Mobile TV and Samsung Media Hub features on that 4.52-inch Super AMOLED Plus display. It's also got DLNA and HDMI-out, and runs on T-Mobile's HSPA+ 42Mbps 4G network.
The additional details of the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II piggybacked the announcment of the HTC Amaze 4G. You can find the full press release for both after the break.
