LG Optimus Vu gets demoed on video, still looks big

12

Youtube link for mobile viewing

With the LG Optimus Vu getting it's official unveiling ahead of Mobile World Congress, there is plenty of folks out there looking to get their hands on the device to get a better look at it. Luckily, the device has been making its rounds and most recently was caught on video.

In it, we get a good look at the 5-inch (1024x768) IPS display and a better feeling for the 4:3 aspect ratio plus, a look at the tools that will be used for hand written notes -- just like the Galaxy Note, though there is no stylus present in the video. We'll hold off our full commentary until we get our own hands-on with it but what do you all think of it?

LG's quad-core X3 to debut as Optimus 4X HD, according to reports

9

T-Mobile 'G4X' also rumored ahead of Mobile World Congress

LG's next big thing, the "X3", will be unveiled at Mobile World Congress next week as the LG Optimus 4X HD, according to reports from PocketNow. If true, the branding would give weight to what's already been rumored -- that LG's next flagship phone will sport a quad-core Tegra 3 CPU and a 720p dispay. Based on recently leaked-benchmarks, LG's looks set to deliver a beast of a phone, with early scores dwarfing current high-end handsets (and we'd expect no less from Tegra 3).

The site also reports references to a T-Mobile G4X, possibly based on this design. It'd makes sense that the 4X HD might become Tmo's latest G-series handset, as we've seen screenshots of near-vanilla Android running on one version of the device very recently. Whatever the phone(s) end up being called, we're sure to see them in a few days at Mobile World Congress.

Motorola Cliq 2 to get Gingerbread

7

It's retro week here aet Android Central, first with the Samsung Continuum getting an upgrade to Android 2.2 Froyo, and now the Motorola Cliq 2 on T-Mobile. You heard that right. T-Mobile apparently is seeking out 1,000 people who still use the Cliq 2 (and hang out in T-Mobile support forums) to test the upgrade before it goes live to the other four or five people who haven't ditched the device already.

If you're interested, the link below.

LG announces the Optimus 3D MAX - 3D in a slimmed-down package

11

Having already taken the wraps off the Optimus Vu and Optimus L-style series, LG has today taken the wraps off another rumored device -- the Optimus 3D MAX. Headed to Korea in March, then Europe and elsewhere later, the Optimus 3D MAX (spelled the old-fashioned way, with just one X) takes the original Optimus 3D's hardware and makes some modest improvements, before packing it into a slimmer, lighter chassis. We're waiting on official confirmation, but it looks like this is an variant of the Optimus 3D Cube, which was announced for SK Telecom a few hours ago.

The MAX's specs will be familiar to anyone who's used last year's Optimus 3D -- there's a 4.3-inch WVGA 3D  IPS display, dual 5MP rear cameras, 8GB of internal storage and 1GB of app storage and HSPA+ support up to 21Mbps. The CPU's even the same model -- an TI OMAP 4430 -- though it's been bumped from 1GHz up to 1.2GHz. The device ships with Android 2.3 Gingerbread (yeah, we know), with an ICS upgrade coming "shortly after release". Judging by the screenshots, though, LG's rolling out a new version of its Optimus UI in this, and other 2012 devices, so at least there'll be a bit of a visual refresh.

We'll be sure to grab some hands-on time with the Optimus 3D MAX when we arrive at Mobile World Congress in a few days time. In the meantime, you can find more photos, along with the full press release and spec list after the jump.

T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G moves from 'later this year' to 'in late March,' gets $149 price tag

12

When the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G was announced at CES last month, it was done so without a hard release date. Not surprising -- that's how it's done. We still don't have a firm date, but Samsung and T-Mobile tonight in a new release have dropped "late March" on us. We've also got on-contract pricing to go along with it -- $149.99 after $50 mail-in rebate.

The Galaxy S Blaze 4G, in addition to being a mouthful, is one of T-Mobile's newer 42Mbps devices. That is, it can pull down data really fast. Other specs include:

  • 3.97-inch Super AMOLED display
  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread
  • Dual-core qualcomm Snapdragon S3 processor at 1.5 GHz
  • 5MP rear camera
  • 1.3MP front-facing camera

Stay tuned for our next installment, when we might actually get a release date.

LG Optimus 3D Cube coming to SK Telecom in early March

7

LG today announced the Optimus 3D Cube, brining the "next-generation 3D" exclusively to Korean carrier SK Telecom. The phone sports a 4.3-inch IPS LCD display with dual 5-megapixel cameras on the back to handle the 3D action, and a .3MP shooter up front. It's running Android 2.3 Gingerbread powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and a 1520 mAh battery.

The Optimus 3D cube has on-board 3D editing -- a first -- and it comes with NFC tags so you can set up your own profiles just by tapping the phone.

HTC Ville headed to T-Mobile?

8

Sure looks that way according to a new T-Mobile accessory document that has turned up. We've heard quite a bit about the HTC Ville device itself -- even caught some images and video of it in action but until now there has been no mention of possible carriers for the device. Also noted in the document is the Huawei Prism and the Samsung T769 though, overall the information is lacking aside from the names being called to the front. Either way, it'll be interesting to see where the HTC Ville ends up given its rise to fame thus far.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus accessories showing up on Samsung U.S. website, but we can't have them just yet

22

The seemingly endless wait for the official Samsung Galaxy Nexus accessories continues to drag on. Latest developments see the range added to the Samsung US website. Sounds good right? Before you all go rushing on over there waving your credit cards, you might want to take a step back.

The range is showing up as out of stock, and worse still is on a two week backorder. Being on backorder is practically the same as no order, but perhaps we're gradually edging closer to getting our hands on  these -- particularly that sweet car dock. We really want one of those.

On the other side of the Atlantic over here in the UK, things aren't looking any brighter. Clove Technology were hoping to have had their first stocks for the GSM Galaxy Nexus by now. Their product pages have been updated to reflect "availability to be confirmed" and "first stock delayed."

Expansys UK are still showing availability over Tuesday and Wednesday next week, but their dates haven't changed in some time now. We're all hoping they're accurate, but sadly not holding out too many hopes.

If Samsung themselves have placed a two week backorder on stocks though, perhaps that means we will actually be able to get our hands on some in two weeks. Looks like for now though the wait continues.

40

Folks are letting us know that the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket is in the midst of receiving an update. However, that update's failing for a good many. We're not seeing any official changelog just yet either on AT&T's or Samsung's side, but we've got inquiries in. Chances are we're looking at bugfixes with just a 21MB update, but we'll let you know if/when we hear more.
