ClockworkMod Tether to bring a no-root tethering solution to Windows, Mac, and Linux

15

Clockwork Mod

ClockworkMod, aka Koushik Dutta, a favorite among the modding and hacker crowd because of great apps like ROM Manager, has released a very alpha version of Clockwork Mod Tether, and no-root required application for Android that will bring USB tethering to Windows, Mac and Linux.  Koush seems pretty confident that he has worked out a solution that will be invisible to your carrier by using a virtual network interface on your computer that acts as a network proxy.  It's worth mentioning that your network data caps and speeds will still apply, you'll just be able to use that data on a computer as well as on your phone or tablet, without the carrier knowing that's what you're doing. Dumb pipes FTW.

This is a very early preview, and may very well have some issues -- which is why Koush is soliciting alpha testing -- and there's no support or instructions for use yet.  If you feel like having an early look, and are willing to help in the development, watch +Koushik Dutta for details.

Josh's most-used apps of 2011

28

More apps, more better.

Being the "apps guy" is an interesting position. It means I get tasked to play with apps all day long, each and every day. It feels a lot like being an adventurer, wandering through a dense (really dense) forest, where danger and suspense lurk around every corner.

As such (and because I'm more the average Joe user than you might think), my list is a combination of my most-used apps and some apps that are so great, they still deserve recognition (despite not being on the daily list).

With that said, here's some of my favorite and useful apps from the past year.

Jared's most-used apps of 2011

Android Central

Applications come and go on a daily basis, some for testing purposes, others because they are new and shiny and well I think I have to have them.

Only a few applications make the daily use category, so hit the break to find out which those are!

Richard's most-used Android apps of 2011

27

Android Central

Over the course of the last 12 months, I've lost count of the sheer amount of applications that I've downloaded, tried, deleted, and in some cases tried again. When all is said and done though, there's a select group of apps which I use a whole lot more than others to the point that they've become part of everyday life. Here's a little list of what's been getting me through the week.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 2 coming sometime in 2012 with 'enhanced' Tegra 3 version

Youtube link for mobile viewing

SEGA today announced that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 2 will be coming to the Android Market and NVIDIA's Tegra Zone app sometime in 2012. No word on exactly when, however. But we do know that it'll be optimized for Tegra 2 devices -- and it'll have an "enhanced" version for the new quad-core Tegra 3 tablets and (eventually) smartphones.

And ... that's it for now. Check out the promo video above, and we've got the full presser after the break.

GTA III modifications appearing in Android version

10

Android Central

The anniversary edition of Grand Theft Auto III is quite simply magnificent. It truly is a mark of how far technology has advanced in the last ten years. And in true Android fashion, GTA III can be customised with just a tiny little bit of work.

It turns out that modifying the Android version of the game is in fact as simple as modifying the PC version. By adding files to the directory on the SD card. As an added bonus, it turns out the PC and Android versions of the game are so similar, that many PC modifications actually work on the Android version so you can soup up your cars and add custom textures to your heart's content.

Hit the source link for more information if you fancy a go, and check out one happy modifiers video after the break.

Chris's most-used apps of 2011

20

Android Central

While I spend a lot of time checking apps out so that I may share them with you all, friends and family and just generally know what I'm talking about it, fact is -- I rarely stray away from my main ones. I'm a creature of habit, and once I find something I like I find it hard to move on to something else. My main apps of choice may interest you though, and if that is the case -- jump on past the break to see what I use most often.

Krispy Kreme for Android: The only app you'll ever need (Mmmmmmm ... Doughnuts)

32

Krispy Kreme

There are two kinds of people in this world -- those who love Krispy Kreme doughnuts, and those who are wrong. For those in the former group, there's now a "Hot Light" app for Android. Using sophisticated doughnut technology, it triangulates your position relative to nearby Krispy Kreme eateries and then notifies you whether the "Hot Now" sign is on -- and it'll alert when you the switch is thrown.

It is simultaneously the most happy (for when that sweet, sweet notification comes in) and sad (light no blinky) Android app we've ever used.

We've got download links after the break.

Jerry's most-used apps of 2011

40

Apps, yo.

I'm not a big app guy, I'll admit.  I like to check them out, and maybe even keep them around for a week or so, but there's just a few I keep around forever.  I do happen to like buying them and checking them out, though, so I go through a lot of them.  Here's my list of "keepers." Check them out after the break.

Tim Tebow has as many Android apps as all of the 2012 Pro Bowl QBs combined

20

Tim Tebow app

Fun fact: Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow has at least six Android apps and a live wallpaper in the Android Market. (Make that eight total if you count the misspelled "Tbows World.")

There's "Tim Tebow." (with a period). "Tim Tebow" (without a period). "Tim Tebow!" (because dude deserves an exclamation point). The "Tim Tebow Unofficial App." "Tim Tebow News & Stats." And our favorite (although likely a little offensive to some), "You-R-Tebow," in which your face is planted on top of the genuflecting QB's body.

That's more than a half-dozen Tim Tebow Android apps. Guess how many the wonder boy Tom Brady has? Two. And his fellow 2012 Pro Bowlers don't fare much better. Aaron Rodgers (3). Drew Brees (2). Eli Manning (1).  And poor Ben Roethlisberger and Philip Rivers don't even merit a single app. (Not even a search for "meathead" turns up any results for those two.)

Yep, dude's everywhere.
