Sony Xperia C3

After breaking cover yesterday, the Xperia C3 is official. Claimed to be the world's best selfie smartphone, the device comes with a 5MP wide-angle front camera along with an LED flash module and dedicated selfie apps.

The wide-angle camera features an 80 degree field of view, which allows you to capture more elements within the frame. The front camera sensor includes intelligent scene detection and a Superior Auto mode that automatically adjusts lighting conditions.

Sony has also included exclusive software features in the form of dedicated selfie apps like AR effect and Portrait Retouch, which allow you to add effects, graphics and animations to your selfies and videos.

Other specs include a 5.5-inch 720p display, dual-SIM connectivity, 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon CPU, 1 GB RAM, 8 GB internal memory, microSD up to 32 GB, 8 MP rear camera, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, DLNA, 2500 mAh battery and Android 4.4 KitKat.

The Xperia C3 will be available in black, white and mint color variants, and will be launching next month. China is slated to be the first launch market, with other regions set to receive the device soon after.

What do you think of the Xperia C3? Would you be interested in the device?

LED flash on the front.

I hope it doesn't blind others.

ultravisitor says:

I hope it does.

That'll teach those narcissists to stop taking constant selfies.

Devhux says:

I would have to agree with you. It was so much better when we didn't have a term to go along with this - and even better when people weren't so obsessed with taking them!

.... Then again, I'm taking lots photos of my cat, so in a way I might be just as guilty.....

I take too many pictures of food.

I only take like, 1 selfie per month.

Still better than 10 bloody selfies every 3 hours.

Unless it's $200 or less, I don't see why anyone would buy this phone with those specs.

Wes Atkinson says:

Its gotta be aimed at kids for that spec to keep the price down.

Graham Cluck says:

Completely agree. When your selling point is a 'selfie' can, time to rethink priorities

Urvaksh_S says:

Why would they slap such specs onto the phone? The led flash will result in more eyes being closed rather than anything else...

a wide angle lens doesn't show you more detail in the frame, it just shows you more.

Depending on what kind of selfie you're taking, that wide angle may come in handy if you know what I mean... wink wink nudge nudge...

Should be competitive on the mid range but I would expect better specs for such a claim but I guess it can be popular with people that takes tons of selfies. The HTC One M8 has a 5 mpx wide angle front camera as well. Sony should have put this camera on the Z2 and eventually run it down the line for its mid range devices.

Love the Mint Green color. Plus the fact this Xperia is not being marketed as waterproof/resistant. You have access to the battery. But really, the Chinese market first? Looks like US buyers get stuck with "coming soon".....again.

Jay Holm says:

When it comes to Sony it's ALWAYS "Coming Soon"! They really don't know how to do a global product launch, they really don't.

5.5"? Why couldn't Sony just keep this one compact?

Seriously...especially for a selfie phone, I'd think a smaller size would make it easier to take pictures. Unless they were thinking bigger display to see the picture being taken better?

I guess if you're self centred enough to buy a phone focused in take photos of yourself, the bigger you can see yourself the better...

"Dedicated selfie apps."

We truly live in a magical world.

Yes, thanks to the miracle of Sony's AR effects I can now take a selfie with a T-Rex.

Oh, good, a wide angle lens. Now all the selfies taken with it will look really distorted and goofy. Perfect.

You guys are not the beacon of positivity I wanted you to be.......

It's a phone, for selfies. Thats it. It will probably be a Metro PCS or T-Mobile exclusive aimed at getting you to put your teenager on a family plan or something that you can use when you go out with your friends to the club and leave your good phone at home.

This is not a spec-war phone. No Snapdragon 801's here people. Calm down.

Graham Cluck says:

Based on the other specs alone, I'll be sticking with my M8 thank you, which by the way ha a 5mp shooter on the front. Pass....

ShadoWolf_TA says:

1GB RAM and no wireless AC are deal breakers, but it would be great to see that camera on the Xperia X3.
