Samsung is hosting a free introductory workshop for Android developers who want to learn how to make apps that will work with the Samsung Gear VR headset on May 20 in Mountain View, California.
The Gear VR app workshop will be located at the Samsung Developer Connection offices, which are located at 665 Clyde Avenue in Mountain View, California. It will be held next Wednesday, May 20 from noon to 2:30 p.m.. It's specifically for developers who have experience in making Android apps and/or apps made with the Unity game engine but have had no previous experience in making apps for the Gear VR. The invite states:
Using Unity, you will create the basic components required of a Gear VR app. You will also learn about Oculus recommendations and requirements, how to optimize your project to run on mobile and some best practices including how to design for user comfort. By the end of the workshop you will have created a splash screen and connected it to a main scene. You will also walk away with detailed instructions on how to complete a 360 degree image viewer.
Samsung will provide a Galaxy Note 4 and a Gear VR headset to use during the workshop. Attendees must bring a laptop with an Android development environment setup already installed, along with the Oculus SDK and Unity.
