Project Beyond

Samsung has introduced a new and rather unique 3D camera, Project Beyond, that's been made to capture 360-degree video footage that can be shown on the company's upcoming Gear VR headset.

The company showed off Project Beyond as part of today's keynote address at the Samsung Developer Conference. The camera looks like a toothed hockey puck, but rather than skittering across the ice it actually contains 16 side cameras with ultra-wide lenses that are made to creature video footage at a rate of one gigapixel a second. It also contains a 17th camera on top of the device for over head shot. It certainly looks like Samsung is serious about offering Gear VR buyers some solid content when the headset is released
