Epic 4G Froyo source code

Samsung has placed the open source portions of the rumored EB13 Froyo update for the Epic 4G live on their open source page.  While this isn't something you can jump in and flash, it makes it pretty certain that rooted users will see the "official" Froyo before Sprint gets it out, supposedly on Feb 21.

It also gives developers a solid base to begin work for custom ROMs that needed newer code and drivers, and should really help with the creation of an AOSP style Froyo, and possibly Gingerbread ROM for the Epic 4G.  If you're a developer, or just want to have a look, point your web browser to the source link, choose the Mobile phone section, and search for D700 in the search bar.  Big thanks to Samsung for getting this out pre-release and honoring the GPL.  [Samsung's Open Source Release CenterThanks everyone who sent this in!

very smart move. Now if this doesn't show up soon, ALL anger and threats get pointed at Sprint. Sammy has proof they are doing their part this way

This is great!! I got an Epic 3 weeks ago to compliment my Evo. I have it rooted with TER 1.5 and I'd like to see some improvements and maybe even some Gingerbread action, as well. Love the phone, just hate the update waits. Gonna keep this baby til august or september. This is great news. Maybe someday I'll see cyanogen mod on here...

So now what do I do with all this rage I had against Samsung?

I guess I'll just go back to yelling at children.

And if you search SGH-I896 you'll find the source for the Canadian Captivate. I imagine that could be used to make ROMs for AT&T SGH-I897 units as well.

Six months later? Why not just update to gingerbread or forget any update at all. This is an insult to all of their customers. Samsung makes nice products but today's customers are educated and we know better. FAIL.

Dude...seriously...you are not ever getting Gingerbread. The sooner you realize that & get rid of your Samsung for a better manufacturer, the better off you will be.

I'm going through my sd card and don't see a bakcck file. All I have is the update zip for froyo
