Nintendo confirmed earlier today that it will officially reveal its first game made for smartphones on Thursday, October 29. The long-awaited announcement will be the first of a series of games that Nintendo will develop in collaboration with DeNA.

Nintendo's new president Tatsumi Kimishima confirmed the reveal date as part of the company's latest financial results. Kimishima took over following the death of Nintendo's former president, Satoru Iwata, in July.

Nintendo recorded an operating profit for the first half of its fiscal year, but revenues were below expectations, and the company's console business has underperformed, especially with poor sales of its Wii U console. Many game industry analysts believe Nintendo's decision to finally launch smartphone games will help them greatly. Nintendo and DeNA plan to release five smartphone games by March 2017.
