Motorola and Lenovo's system-level intelligence, Qira, is expanding to more phones this week with Android 17. Motorola details which devices will see Qira in this new expansion.
At the start of Qualcomm's Snapdragon Summit, Motorola got a Qira announcement out of the way regarding its Android 17 upgrade. If Qira is supported, Moto says users can take the AI's assistance with them from their phone, desktop, watch, and PC. With the "Hey Qira" wake word, Moto says the AI can provide "features like Catch me up, the ability to ask urgent questions, and a knowledge base that features all of their saved files, preferences, and synced cross-device information."
Permitting Qira activates another level of assistance for your Motorola phone. Continuing a project from your phone on your PC is one of those unlocked features. What's more, "Pay Attention" helps users with transcribed audio recordings that "summarize key points." You can also find "Next Move." This feature suggests what you should do next. If you're reading a blog post, it might ask if you want a summary. Or if you've booked a flight, Qira might suggest setting a reminder so you're on time.
"Catch me up" keeps you in the loop with a round-up of notifications, news, and more, while "Style Sync" brings Qira in for new fashion styles. A collaboration with Lenovo's Workato lets users lean on Qira to complete tasks for them (if told to) and quickly find important information in their email.
Android 17 is where Moto users can expect to find Qira's massive expansion. Motorola is being selective, stating you'll see Qira on its Signature, Razr, and Edge devices.
Moto AI
We were introduced to Qira earlier this year. The AI was a pretty big swing from Motorola and Lenovo, as the two companies went beyond "simple chatbots" to a "personal ambient intelligence" system. The point of Qira is to create an experience that's always-on and consistent across Android, PC, and more. In conjunction with "Next Move" and "Catch me up," users can chat with Qira.
Additionally, Motorola says you can chat via voice, text, images, or videos. Qira is wrapped inside the Moto AI feature suite. Remaining context-aware is key for Motorola and Lenovo. It's one significant way for the AI to deliver the assistance it was designed to do. Of course, much of this is based on its level of permissions. If users don't want it inside their emails or notifications for "Catch me up," you don't have to let it.
