Motorola started teasing its upcoming Signature 27 on social media, and what it has to say is so interesting that we're not sure what to think.
The company posted a short clip about the device on X this morning (Sept. 18), and it's got us thinking flagship in a big way. The video starts off saying, "Every material. Obsessed." We see the phone in what looks like a moss green before an artisan takes a knife to a long stretch of leather (or fabric). This is where things get interesting. Motorola confirms the name of the device—Signature 27—alongside a date: September 22, 2026.
This is important. Motorola's post reads, "There’s more to discover with Motorola and Snapdragon." Qualcomm's annual Snapdragon Summit is set for September 22-24. If Motorola and Qualcomm have come together for something regarding Snapdragon, and at this event no less, perhaps we're looking at a true flagship chip for the Signature 27.
Motorola's teaser was brief, but it's given us enough to think about.
For context, the Motorola Signature launched at CES 2026 in January. It's a premium, "ultra-thin" phone from Moto with a 6.8-inch screen. The Signature stood out to us as one of Motorola's best flagships. However, the phone features one tiny little drawback: its chip is for midrange phones. The Signature features Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. The chip, while good, offers flagship-level performance for affordable phones.
It misses the robust strength you'd get from the Elite Gen 5. Motorola's current Signature 27 teasers have us excited—for two reasons, mind you.
Going flagship
Moto's original Signature surprised me when I saw it. That's the kind of phone that I expect from the company but it never actually delivered. Not in the way I wanted. The Edge was a nice phone; though the curved display could get tiring after a while. Snapdragon Summit is coming up, so we'll have all our answers then.
Mid-August held Qualcomm's teasers for what we can expect from the Snapdragon Summit this year. The company said we can expect "Dual 8 Elites" this year. Rumors claim the company is working on an 8 Elite Gen 6 and a Gen 6 Pro. Qualcomm's summer teaser mentioned connectivity enhancements and "advanced camera functionality."
What's more, "immersive gaming experiences" were mentioned. The major upgrades Qualcomm has planned are headed to both its 8 Elites this year. Its teaser was brief, but it gave us enough to think about heading into September. Now that we're here, we've got Dual 8 Elites on the mind and Moto's Signature 27.
A flagship chip could definitely solidify its premium ambitions for the Signature 27. The original was good and gave that premium/flagship feel we enjoy, but it could've been more. Hopefully, if what we're thinking is true, Motorola will reach for a flagship Elite from Qualcomm to put the cherry on top.
