Epic 4G update

If you keep hitting the update button on your Samsung Epic 4G in hopes of getting that update that was supposed to drop to today, well, stop it. There's been a tiny snag, Samsung says. And because we know how you guys love conspiracy theories, we'll bold the part that proves Samsung's not trying to screw you over:

We learned this evening that there were administrative issues getting this software loaded to Google's servers. We don't yet have an expected time when this will be available but will update you as soon as possible. Please see the statement below that was sent by the Sprint Product Management team:

We were planning to release an update for your Samsung Epic 4G on 9/30. The file was delivered and on track for distribution but late this afternoon, we learned that an administrative issue prevented Google from releasing the update as we had planned. We are working to resolve the issue and will provide an update as soon as we understand the new delivery schedule.

We would like to clarify that the timing of this update has nothing to do with the 30 day return window that many of you on these blogs have been discussing and that this delay has nothing to do with any last minute changes within the release package itself. The delay is simply due to an administrative issue that we are working to resolve.

So there you have it, you disbelieving disbelievers, you. Let's hope things get back on track soon. [Sprint via Android Central Forums]

Epic 4G update on hold, Samsung says

Oh well. Hopefully it will be ready to go by Monday or sometime next week. I'm not worried about the 30 day return/exchange period anymore, as I just exchanged my Epic today, on the 30th day of my first window, so now I have a renewed 30 day window : ) The Epic I returned had a build date of 10.07 and the new one I received today in exchange has a build date of 10.08 and so far it is MUCH better than my first one : )

Unless you got a new "original receipt" with the new date on it, your 30 days does not restart. The only way you would get that would be to have returned your Epic and switched to something else. Just having it replaced does not restart the 30 day clock.

Uh, I did check it. With Sprint. Before I even made a decision to exchange it. I'm not talking about with regards to returning the phone and getting off my contract. I upgraded to the Epic using my yearly upgrade as a Sprint Premier member meaning I was already locked into another year on my contract BEFORE I even upgraded to the Epic, and now I'm locked in for an additional year after that so 2 total. But Sprint definitely told me that I would have 30 days to try out the new phone I received to make sure there were no major issues with it, etc, and if so that I could exchange it for a new one again. But the new phone with the 10.08 build date is awesome. No problems yet, and MUCH better build quality than my original with a build date of 10.07. You can check the build date on the back of the phone behind the battery towards the bottom. The battery also has its own build date printed on it. Plus, I just received the new software update on my Epic tonight. WIN!

this is why i didnt go samsung. i never trusted their software support. all the speculation about how this is their flagship device and they will support it 100% and its still doesnt have 2.2

I did a hard reset to get rid of the media hub update and my epic is pretty damn good so far.. I was getting 4hrs of use from 100% to dead battery now I'm double that. So I'm happy but I still have to do the airplane trick after reboot so any good update would be greatly appreciated samsung

Nah of course not, no conspiracy theory. Just a fact that Epic update was not delivered. As facts would have it neither was the Tmobile Vibrant update. I am Captivated and fascinated by how vibrant and epic a failure of delivery that is Samsung. That is all.

Samsung and Spritn were able to play with all the people who bought the epic crap phone on 08/31/2001. I thought it was a good phone. I was mistaken. The last problem that i have is that the 4G does not want to work. I am very disapointed with Samsung. I am going to return this phone since i bought it on 09/01/2001.

Owning a Epic is completely OPTIONAL....for those complaining and calling the phone a Epic fail need to be happy that an upgdate is at least on the way.

You are 100% right, however I am very disapointed because I thought that I bougth one of the phone in the market. I like the hardware, but i am not very happy with the software. Today is my last day to return the phone.

Because EVERYBODY seems to have missed it, except three people above:

we learned that an administrative issue prevented GOOGLE from releasing the update

What everyone seems to be missing here is, what happens to the people that got their Epic on 8/31, the 30-day return window will be over with no fix of the issue and no time to evaluate if it actually fixed the problem.

Regardless of who's fault it may be, Samsung/Sprint should have offered an extension of the return period to those who had the device since day one for a few days AFTER the update is released. Afterall, this upload cap actually affects the data functionality promissed for this device and for which you happen to be paying an extra $10/mo for the "enhanced data experience".

For the record, and before any childish remarks about owning the phone being optional, I did exercise my option of returning my Epic before the 30-day period expired. I will patiently wait on the side lines until Samsung/Sprint addresses this and other major issues with this phone before picking another copy down the road.

hummmmmm I kindly like my epic 4g....got it on release date and no issues....funnie too because I also own a captivate and like it fine....also had a iphone 4 for a month but did take it back...liked it too but had to tell at+t to bite me, bite me hard and bite me often

people sure do piss and moan a lot for something that sends a signal to outer space and back in 2 seconds....hahahaha....yall should have been around in the 60's growing up like me...tube type black and white tv only and made of steel...weighed about 200 pounds and had a 15 inch screen and would shock your monkey when you touched to to change the channel or volume...about the only user controls it had...horizontal vertical and fine tuning actually is all it had....and yall bitching about a epic 4g? hahahahaha

not saying any of these gadgets are perfect...but over time you will get it tweaked like you want it unless you need an iphone to start with. they work fine now...but then there's at+t....always something....

Sending a signal into outer space and back is not a major feat. Outer space is only 117,964.915 meters from the surface. Any electromagnetic device, a flashlight, can send a signal 299,792,458 meters in a second. Thought I'd be an ass and point that out.

no problem james, take your best shot...i would like more info on the flashlight that has the 300 million yard range...must be a big one...electromagnetic you say? flashlights? really? sending anything into space is a major feat my friend...wait till iran does it and you'll see why.

dont want to get into politics but my point is any one wanting an epic should understand they are good phones...real good...and i get a little tired of trolls and folks that don't even have one making comments about em.

i think most all the higher end smart phones are pretty good...at that level your choice of carriers and data plan depending on how you intend to use the device has to be considered...i expect most of us on here (self too) are hard core gadget freaks and if you are just get em all and be done with it. i did and the epic beat em all...there are reasons why it did that cannot be debated...

... we'll bold the part that proves Samsung's not trying to screw you over:

That's very trusting of you... They're making a claim, not providing proof.

Hey all, i dont know if anybody else started to get it, but i received the DI18 OTA update this morning at 10am eastern. seems to be working just fine, even with being rooted. just my 2 cents.

I've gotten my update also...now waiting patiently for the 2.2 update. Heard from by a true Epic loving fool, Muhahaha!
