An app authorized by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency is set to expedite your travel between the United States and Canada. Mobile Passport Control will run on your iPad or iPhone and provides passport information, a customs declaration form, and an uploaded self-photo before inspection.

Right now Mobile Passport Control is in a pilot program. You'll only be able to use it if you arrive at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport starting on August 13. Though you can look forward to additional airports being added later this year, as well as Android support.

Mobile Passport Control works by having you fill out custom declaration questions and taking a selfie when you land. The app will help speed you through customs, but does not replace your passport. Keep that handy for now.

Head to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency website for all the details on the app and pilot program. Anyone interesting in using an app to speed up the customs process?

We'll let you know when the app comes to Android!

Border patrol app coming to Android to help you fly through customs

And make sure you Canadians have a Data Plan that won't kill you in the States before you install this.
I Drive to Canada occasionally, and the instant I get Canadian customs, I get a text message from AT&T saying welcome to Canada, and the next bill arrives with a huge text international messaging charge.
And holy crap is the bill high if you forget to turn off data roaming.

Wait. You clear US customs in Canada when traveling to the US, when you arrive in Atlanta you're a domestic traveler. I predict a failed government pilot (no surprises there) and no app for general use!

Not all Canadian airports have pre-clearance. For example, Victoria, St. John's, and Québec City don't.

Ya, you clear US customs in Canada (so called pre-clearance). So no crazy data issues for Canadians to fret about. Americans on the other hand...

Well this would have been nice! I came from Asia a couple weeks back, and customs took way too long! Hopefully and android version will be released real soon!

The tittle says Android, but the body of the article shows " Mobile Passport Control will run on your iPad or iPhone "???

For US Citizens looking to clear customs faster check out Global Entry. Cost $100 for 5 years but the time I save is well worth it.

So true. Also, it's worth noting that if you have sufficient status on some airlines (Platinum or 1K on United, for example), they'll pay the processing fee for you.

Just for the record, this has nothing to do with the Border Patrol. Border Patrol deals with people crossing the border illegally, at places other than official border crossings. They don't work at airports at all.

The people at the airports are part of "Inspections," totally separate from Border Patrol.

But kudos for getting the name of CBP (Customs and Border PROTECTION) correct in the article. Most people don't. Now you just need to educate your headline writer.
