The Brookings Institute released an application recently that you should check out if you enjoy politics, international relations, or economics (or all of them!). The Brookings Institute is a think-tank in Washington, D.C., that has roots dating back to 1916. It provides in-depth articles and analysis on issues relating to economics and politics. Let's look at it further, after the break.

The institute's three broad goals:

Strengthen American democracy;
Foster the economic and social welfare, security and opportunity of all Americans and
Secure a more open, safe, prosperous and cooperative international system.

They boast experts from all fields that cover hundreds of topics. Now, you can enjoy their analysis from your Android phone.

First of all and always welcome, the app is free. When opened, it will bring you to a front-page with a quote. I’m guessing that the quote will change every day and will be relevant to the events occurring on that day. Today’s dealt with the Facebook ‘Kill List’ that resulted in vicious murders in Colombia.

With a simple click, you will be brought to the home page, which displays their main stories of the day (identical to the main page of the web site)

The app looks nice and is easy to scroll through. On the bottom, there are many other options:

  • Topics: allows you to sort stories by topic or region
  • Video: brings users exclusive video from the Institute
  • Experts: displays those who contribute to the think-tank
  • Events: shows a list of upcoming events that the Brookings Institute is involved with or interested in

I'd encourage you to check out the app if you're even remotely interested in these topics. It's free so there's really no reason not to.

Android Quick-App: Brookings

What a world we've come to when the nation's oldest centrist think tank gets the ol' "GET THEM THAR SOSHULISTS" treatment from the rabble-rabble noise machine.

don't get out much, do you? anything even remotely left of McCarthy might as well be worshiping at Lenin's grave, eh?

Doesn't seem to work over 4G (Epic 4G), at least not consistently. Gives a network error: "Please check your internet connection and try again later."

Seems to work fine on 3G.

It probably should be noted that this is a liberal think-tank. I'm not saying it is good or bad, but it is what it is. You're not going to be reading articles designed to incorporate multiple perspectives on the various issues.

Brookings is frequently considered amongst the top 3 influential think tanks in the nation, alongside American Enterprise Institute and the Heritage Foundation. When you're lumped in with AEI and HF it's easy to see why even a centrist organization, like Brookings, is considered "liberal". Being to the left of far right wing doesn't make you liberal, socialist, progressive, communist, pick-your-dirty-word-for-left-leaning-politics-and-put-it-here. What gets tagged as liberal in America is laughable to the actual liberal worldviews elsewhere on the planet.

"You're not going to be reading articles designed to incorporate multiple perspectives on the various issues"...

yea you gotta tune into Fox News for that
