Android Central App

A quick heads up, folks, that an update's on the way for the official Android Central app. Bugfixes, mostly, but we've also added deep linking for our forums.

There's good news and bad news with that. The basic deep linking means that if you tap a link that goes to a forum or thread from or app, or an e-mail, or somewhere else (Twitter and Facebook are still a pain because they shorten links on their own), you should get the option to open it in the app. Chrome is also a little finicky with that, and we've got more work to do there as well. So no deep linking from Chrome. But we're on the case, and we didn't want to wait to get you the basic functionality, especially because it means links within the apps will work just fine.

And because it's high on your wish list (as well as ours) — yes, we're still planning on bringing a search function to the app. There's a bit of back-end work that goes into that, and we want to make sure we do it right, so that it works on all our sites, in all our apps, on all the major platforms. So thanks for your patience there. (We can't wait to get it either.

You can download the Android Central App from here. You can find the history of changelogs here.

And if you're so inclined, we'd love for you to leave a review on the app. If you've got some love for it, say so! If you've got something constructive to say, say it! If you're going to try to be cute, however, remember who's on the other side of this keyboard.

Android Central app gets a few fixes, one new forum feature

I'd love notification of new posts, with a count of new posts since the last time I opened the Android Central app. That would add a lot of value to me.

I love your app. But please fix your website especially on mobile. It went from wonderful to painfully slow. (On a nexus 5) you used to be my most visited site and the redesign changed that solely due to performance issues. Less is more guys.

But at least I have your awesome app in the mean time :-)

Honest question, why do you need to visit the site thru browser when you have the native app?

To view a commenter's profile. It can be done within the Forums part of the app but not in the Home/All/Comments (I'm sure there's a better name but the app doesn't reveal it).

For example, someone was solely blaming their cell phone's brand for their lack of updates, and seemed to think that their carrier played absolutely no role in the updating process, and wasn't willing to name their carrier, but the carrier WAS named in their profile.

Ditto on fixing the website for mobile devices. That header is still a hot mess since it rolled out beginning of June; especially on an AOSP based web browser (ex. stock Samsung browser called "Internet" on my Note 2 and OG 10.1 or side loaded on my OG Nexus 7). Also, it's not encouraging news to read Blackberry users reporting similar stuff (with their Blackberry browser) last week when the redesign was rolled out to their site. :(

To vent; can't tell you how much I hate that stupid header and site redesign (mobile or even Firefox on my laptop). I put up with it most days since AC has some good content and the forums are great. But there are days I stay away because I just don't want to deal with it anymore. There was nothing wrong with the previous site design, it worked great! No issues what-so-ever!

As to the app, don't want it, don't need it. A web browser works just fine (well it did here until the redesign). Even tried Chrome as a work around, but it's still laggy compared to the AOSP based browser. But the deal breaker; it doesn't support S-Pen hover scrolling on my Note devices. :(

I don't post often, but, I am constantly checking in for new and exciting news !!
Keep up the great work !!

Why can't I get an email when someone replies to my comment? I end up commenting and have to scroll through hundreds of posts to find my comment just to see if anyone replied! Fix this!

Great update! Only two things I want to see in the next update, a push notification when new articles are posted and a push notification that tells you when someone replies to your comment on an article.

Just waiting on notifications when other members reply to my comments via the app.

I get my Android news from this app. Hands down love it the way the app is layout. Simple to use and functional. That is what makes it one of the best news apps for tech about Android. "Two Thumbs Ups" keep it coming.

I wish that when viewing the list of threads in a forum, the amount of time since the last post would show next to the number of replies to that thread. I know it's minor, but that's the one thing that keeps me using Tapatalk for reading the AC forums. Other than that, the app looks great!

I love this app and just being able to share my love for tech and android with others. I appreciate all the hard work that goes into the site and this app.

This app with the upgrades has turned it into my favorite for android news. Also I think its ease of use has flooded the forums with great smartphone users which makes it the best place to find answers to your questions about the latest and greatest devices. Thanks for a great job

I'd like to see an AC University tab on the slide out menu. It would be nice to have them all grouped together in one place for easy access.

Totally enjoy the forum. Great place for honest information and help. Five stars as far as I'm concerned.

So here is what I would like addressed: Forum closed threads.

Unlike the website, there is zero visual indication that a thread has been closed. The app will blissfully allow you to type a nice long response that can go nowhere. Instead it shouldn't let you type anything at all and there should be some sort of visual indication of the lock.

Can anyone advise me, I reserted my samsung tab 3 10.1 to factory specifications bcause I could not find the menu button so that I could access my apps. I could do basically nothing exept to make nd receive calls nd play games. In order to access social media I had to pull the drop down menu then find facebook or whatsapp there if im lucky. Now it is working but it is very basic, it is more of a cellular phone than what I bought, a smartphone. It shows vodacom logo, no more the blue live screen and shaky screen taps I used to enjoy. Basically it seems what was loaded as extras after it came out of the factory is missing, it is now so BORING. I even down loaded Android yestèrday at 164mb and 360 security.
