Amazon Appstore

Promotion valid though December 28

Amazon is spreading a little holiday cheer this week by offering a $5 credit to anyone who simply downloads an app or game from their app store. In a bold attempt to get people to download more apps and games from the Amazon Appstore the promotion runs through Dec 28, and qualifying for the credit is extremely easy.

To get the credit all you need to do is load up the Amazon Appstore (make sure you're on the latest version) and then download any game or application, even a free one. From here you will receive a $5 credit to use towards another paid application or game of your choice, and then the shopping can begin.

With a wide variety of apps and games already on sale in the Amazon Appstore the $5 credit can get you a few games or apps depending on the deals you find. Amazon will also be offering free app bundles and deals over the next couple of days, so whether you got a new Android device this holiday season or not you will definitely want to check and see what they are offering.

So what are you waiting for? Get to loading the Amazon Appstore and downloading some new apps for your Android device. Be sure to share your new purchases with everyone, and any good deals you come across!

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

Bought the kindle fire hdx for the little one for christmas so it will come in handy

How did you guys know you got the credit? Does the newest version of the Amazon Appstore seem slower to load than the previous version?

It wasn't for me but I'm on Wifi.I usually jump on free money but I'll pass on this one.

They send you an email stating they've added $5 credit to your account. And then when you buy an app, the confirmation email shows the deduction for that purchase.

Ugh! I think I just realized why I didn't get the credit! I'm in the US but I'm using a UK version ROM on my tablet. I'll have to try to update the Appstore on my phone and try it on my phone.

Once you update to latest AppStore and you get an app, right after it will pop up saying a $5 credit will be added to the account.

I wish I could register my flip case for my Note 3 and get 50.00 credit in the playstore.

Well, I got the $5 Credit late last night and after doing a little bit of digging, while you CAN'T use it on MP3's which is a shame, you can use it in the Amazon Appstore. When you go into the AppStore on your PC, go into a paid app for Android (not Kindle Fire) and on the far right hand side under buy now 1-click, in blue letters it "Redeem a gift card or promotion code & view balance" and inside it says Amazon Appstore $5.00. I will see what they have on-sale and pick an app or two that I want and get it. Cool promo.

Or you can just buy an app. The credit is automatically put onto your account and when you buy an app it uses the credit automatically.

I know that the credit is automatically put into your account, however no one wants to go to buy and app and after the purchase realize that your credit card was actually charged for the app instead of it using the promo credit. That's all I was pointing out.

But one additional thing, most of the apps that I want including Real Racing 2 app, GSam Battery Pro app are more are just available for the Kindle Fire Edition and not Android. Believe it or not, its hard to spend $5 when most of the apps aren't available.

They do that with mp3s too. I don't understand why it can't show when you make the purchase. They have enough experience over there. Upgrade the website/purchase back end and be done with it.

I think GSam Battery Monitor (Kindle Tablet Edition) is just a marketing ploy. If you read the description of GSam Battery Monitor Pro in the Play Store, under the professional edition includes, it lists features geared towards tablets. I think Amazon used that to market the app for Kindle.

Having said all of that, last week I received a $5 promo e-mail from Amazon for their App Store. I used it for GSam Battery Monitor (Kindle Tablet Edition). It installed and worked fine. In the (Google) Play Store when I looked up GSam Battery Monitor Pro, it indicated it was installed. Cool. BUT, I uninstalled the app. I have all Amazon apps disabled. (Obviously) I enabled the Amazon App Store app to make the purchase, and disabled it after the purchase/install was complete. Upon launching the (GSam) app I got a pop-up that said "It appears that you've disabled or uninstalled the Amazon App Store app. You must re-enable or re-install it to use the (GSam) app." It's probably innocent and/or not a big deal, but that bothers me. So the (GSam) app is gone.

I'm sure there are Play store Free Apps that I want the paid version for. If only I could remember what they are so I can see if Amazon has them.

If you bought an app for your phone, can you also use it on your tablet or do you have to buy it again?

I got the email saying I got a $5 credit but it says I need to add funds when trying to download an app. WTH?

Posted via Android Central App

Keep in mind that to use the credit you will need to either use the website or a kindle fire (not first gen). Amazon coins don't work in the android app.

I stocked up my kindle! I got calculator pro, emergency ASL signs, Polaris office, carb counter.

Just tried it on my Note 3 and no popup or store credit. So to clarify... You have to use a Kindle or your PC to get the credit? Kind of an important fact to leave out of an article posted in ANDROID Central isn't it? ;-)

I don't think that's the case. I did it on my Android phone (Note 3) and I received the $5 credit email immediately.

But people have to remember that they have to upgrade the Amazon Appstore FIRST to the latest version or they won't get the credit. Just open the Amazon Appstore on your device and it should give you a popup telling you that there is an update available. Install and you should be good to go.

But now that I have the credit, I can't find anything that I want to buy. :(

I was excited about this until a friend told me that you actually need to have the amazon appstore installed and be online at all times for the downloaded apps to work. Just thought I would share this for people who plan on uninstalling the appstore after receiving the credit and downloading the desired paid app. :)

I guess the App Store doesn't like me: I've already downloaded two apps, including the AppStore app and still no credit. And yes, I live in the good ole USA.

Edit: Just chatted with Amazon Customer Support: The app purchase must be made from the mobile device. I had made my purchase from a PC, but then I downloaded the apps to my mobile device. The CS person is going to credit my account since they can see my order number.

Yep. That would do it. I had same issue. Glad you mentioned it for other people here that run into that issue

Got my $5. My boyfriend only received a $1, though. He downloaded an older version of the app store, I think. EDIT: After uninstalling and installing the latest Amazon App Store, he received a pop-up notifying him of the $5. Not sure if he gets to keep the $1, too.

Here's what I did, I already had an older version of Amazon Appstore on my HTC One.

1) Opened Amazon Appstore App and updated it from account options
2) Opened updated Amazon App and downloaded Twitter (free)
3) Immediately received pop-up message for $5 Promo credit for Amazon AppStore and confirmation email

You do have to purchase app from mobile device.

Spent a decent amount of time looking around at apps to buy. The only purchase I've made so far is the Wolfram Alpha app for $3. Just thought it was worth pointing that one out for anyone that might be interested. Still need to spend the $2!
