Android Central App

It's been far too long since we last updated our official Android Central App — so let's do something about that, shall we? We've just pushed to our beta group a new build that tackles a number of nagging issues. They include:

  • Removed the (potentially) NSFW wallpaper sections from the app at the behest of many of our readers, as well as a few other app stores we submit to.
  • Fix for wallpaper sizing when set as desktop background.
  • Fix for some images being stretched in article view.
  • Back by popular request: You can now see how many hours or days ago a story was published.
  • Better handling for deeply nested article comments (no squeezed unreadable comments).
  • We now display inline images in article comments.
  • Fixed issue with article comments sometimes being unselectable, keeping folks from replaying.
  • Various updates for recent sever-side updates.
  • Fixed quote handling in forums (from new version of Tapatalk).

A reminder about our beta group: When we last updated (again, way too long ago, we know), we switched from the legacy Google Group to a Google+ Community for managing the beta updates. You can join our beta G+ Community here, and please use that channel for leaving feedback.

Thanks, and we've got more long-awaited features coming. (When? Soon!)

I sure did. It's completely unacceptable as well as tacky, school boy nonsense.

Exactly. I rarely ever looked at that area, but the fact that it was there always made me feel like the small contingent of self-appointed morality police that want to make sure that their choices are everyone's choices hadn't won every battle.

I would have to agree. If it was mixed into the other wallpapers, then fine, I can understand the complaint. With it being in it's own section, what's the problem?

Yes, "really"! It's not necessary to be a rude, internet prick! But thanks, at least now I know. Would've been nice to get a response from someone who isn't a rude prick though.
I access the internet on my personal smartphone, not some work controlled pos pc!

I don't use, or acknowledge the word ""troll"".

Neither can I..

There goes other people in this country telling you that since they are offended everybody's offended and it should be removed, it's called grow up and stop being everybody's mother and father, if somebody wants to look at a half naked women then so be it, it's there choice

Posted via Android Central App

If people want to look at half naked women, then that is their choice. My major issue, is why a respectable site such as AC has such a section. Seriously, if you want such things, a quick Google search will do the trick.
Seriously, how pathetic are people these days to think they need half naked women on their home screens to remind them how 'grown up' they are...

Yes AC is respectable. Are you also offended that they curse in their stories Sometimes? Why don't you have the whole APP shut down while your at it. People these days wwoow

As long as it isn't like the Engadget app. They made it more difficult to read and find articles. Keep it simple please!

Posted via Android Central App

I agree! I deleted the Engadget app, switching between regular, mobile, and HD used to be super easy. Now, I don't even have a clue, if it's even possible.

On ur widget u need to add a title bar so u can tap it and go into the app without having to tap a story first.

How about being able to post pictures using the app

+1!!! Such as speedtests, or wallpapers, or screenshots of homescreens, directly from my smartphone, through the app. That would be awesome!

Totally agree. I hate having to go to the old forum app if I want to upload a screenshot of phone.

Maybe I should have asked this guy what "nsfw" means, maybe I would have gotten a more decent response.

"Really"? As if he was shocked I didn't know what "nsfw" meant. Obviously I didn't know, that's why I was asking.

You could learn how to use a search engine. I always search for acronyms/abbreviations I don't know and work out what it is from the context when there are several to choose from, you only need to ask if it still isn't clear after doing that. You'll even get the answer quicker that way.

Because some people are too lazy to do the work themselves, it's not hard.

"How'd you get the beans above the frank?"

We also need a better looking app for tablet in landscape! Cuz it looks like a stretched app thats not cool at all

How much are the Android Central developers paying you to talk about their app?

Posted from my newly Kit Katted Droid Ultra

How about synching stories we've already read across devices? And the ability to subscribe to responses to comments we post and/or to specific stories?

This app takes way to long to update for new headlines and such. If like to see that fixed. Even on wifi and with a quad core phone. Also having the ability to save wallpapers to storage from the app would be great.

What about notification to when someone replies to our comments?

Fuck that. Didn't know there were "potentially" nsfw wallpapers but now that I do I won't be updating this app to take them away. Cryasses

Posted via Android Central App

I just went to see if I still had the nsfw wallpapers...to funny that its to be removed.....I didnt find it offensive at all. My opinion. Sad that we will see wallpapers of the past from AC on chive.com. im not worried that its removed, as I wouldnt use those as my wallpapers, but its just the deal that we have to coddle the ones who are offended.
I remember when you could be offended in Merica and that was ok.....just go be offended again please.

Maybe the folks who where offended where gay. But really it was nothing to get pulled. Oh well we are in Obama zone.

Posted via Android Central App

Wow I just looked at those wallpapers on nexus4. Glad I didn't update this app. Socks u have to remove those wallpapers.

Posted via Android Central App

The NSFW wallpapers weren't even that bad! Seriously, who was crying about that??
Fix a REAL problem, like how I can never see anything "after the break" or view any of the pictures in an article!

How do you insert images into forum posts/replies? I haven't found a way to do that, must be missing something.
