It's possible this means the consumer Oculus virtual reality device could be tied into Samsung's next version of the Galaxy Note smartphone.
While Samsung and Oculus are already showing off the new Gear VR headsets for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge smartphones, those are being sold mainly to developers. Today at the 2015 Game Developers Conference, Oculus's chief technology officer John Carmack confirmed that the consumer Gear VR launch would happen later this year.
According to The Verge:
We've got a plan now, we've got a date, you can mark this in the calendars," Carmack said. "Oculus is going forward as hard as we can, trying to sell as many units as possible with the next Gear VR." Carmack noted that he couldn't discuss unannounced Samsung products — but then said that history has shown Samsung has two big releases per year.
That's a big hint that the consumer version of the Gear VR will work with the currently unannounced Galaxy Note 5.
