Google URL Shortener

Google's long had an excellent option for shortening URLs — goo.gl. Now it has a slick Android app to go along with it. Thomas Devaux rolled out the aptly named "Google URL Shortener" this morning that's as easy to use as it is functional.

The app syncs into your Google account, so you have access to any short URLs you've previously created (and you can get analytics on other goo.gl URLs as well). Short URLs can be starred for easy access — and creating new short URLs is as simple as pasting the full resource into the app.

Once you've created a new short URL, you can quickly and easily share into any app from your notifications. (Or if you prefer, change the settings to immediately copy the short URL to the clipboard, show a dialog or just do nothing.)

It's pretty feature-rich, free, and designed for smartphones, and 7- and 10-inch tablets. Definitely give this app a look-see.

very nice! But, why post it as a private app by the developer if it's a Google app? =/ Makes it really, really hard to find when searching for it.

because it is a private app, it says right on the bottom of the description in Google play "This app is in no way affiliated nor endorsed by Google Inc. Google is a registered trademark of Google Inc"

No it is confusing the way AC has written it. It makes it sounds as if it's a Google product not a private developer. AC should make this clearer.

Is it that big of a deal? It works, it looks nice, Google hasn't said squat, use it!

No Google :)

" Google's long had an excellent option for shortening URLs — goo.gl. Now it has a slick Android app to go along with it. "

This is first sentence and it most certainly makes it sound like it's a Google app.

Yes, I love things like this too. The look and feel is nice. Also, it might even accept URLs by "sharing", and if it does then that's a good reason to use it too!

Apparently, he doesn't. Wouldn't be surprised if Google buy the app from him or hire him in the near future, though.

This needs to be a browser plug in. Switching from a browser to an external app is disruptive to the flow.

JEEZE, GUYS... HOW MUCH ARE GOOGLE PAYING YOU GUYS FOR THIS STUFF!?!?? ?

I kid, I kid.
