We're not sure exactly what Alex did on New Year's Eve, but we're pretty sure Google Play Music didn't approve.

CES is coming....
Would be awesome if AC Live Streamed it through their YouTube channel
I thought I was going to like Google Play Music until it required me to have a credit card on file just to use it.
Posted via the Android Central App
they need a way to charge you its not a free service (all access)....
I think he meant you need to enter your card info even if you just want to upload your own music, which is a free service.
If your card is on file it's not free. It's very sad you people don't value your identities. You can bet Google does LOL that's how they make a huge chunk of their money but I'm sure you people already knew that. Oh well. I disabled the Google Play Music from my phone and I use the pre-installed Samsung player to listen to music.
If you're implying google is selling your credit card information you're mistaken. The idea of having a credit card on file is to make it easier for you to make future purchases... but to assume there's some nefarious secondary motive is overly paranoid.
Please stop embracing the debate. You know that companies use your identity to make money. That's not paranoid it's fact. It's a shame you don't value your identity. I guess your identity is for sale to the lowest bidder. Shame
You really feel that way?? Stop using all credit cards, leaves a digital trail, stop using any online shopping service for the same reason,, immediately stop using any 'smart' phone, again same reason,, then hide in your basement with your tin foil hat

Ace, you're gonna lose this...badly.
I'm not trying to win a debate. I'm just saying I don't want to give Google Play Music my credit card info. If I can use a prepaid card then cool. I'll do that. What's up with all the hostilities towards people that don't agree with what they got going on?
I use a pre paid card. It has 7¢ on it. Enjoy your music m8
"I'm da Blur boys!" - Me with 1200 ping. Yes. My Internet got worse.
You lost your identity and info the first second you stepped into the internet, get over yourself.
I find it unsettling that Google, Spotify, or whoever is maintaining a database of whatever I listen to, and trying to foist other 'relevant' services upon me.
That's why i no longer use them. Privacy is easily lost, and almost impossible to regain. (I also pay by cash and don't use loyalty cards in supermarkets.)
Of course, many people don't care so much and are willing to give their personal information away as in exchange they are given convenience and ease of access.
I think, Ace, that most Android users fall into that category, but only because they subscribe to Google services. It's possible to use Android without Google services (ASOP) but your smartphone experience, and listening enjoying will be much diminished.
Pay cash is the most stupid move ever, $1 today is worth more than $1 1-2 month from now(your credit card payment date for the purchase you made today). You satisfy your privacy paranoia while losing big in time value of money.
Well, why pay your credit card bill next month? why not take out another credit card and use that to pay the bill? that way the value of your $1 today will be worth even more still in 2-4 months time.
Trouble is, if you miss repaying that bill by 1 second, you will be stung big time for interest repayments. And then the value of that S1 plummets.
But who cares about the dollar. It's pretty much worthless these days anyway.
Actually, the dollar is rolling right now... What rock have you been hiding under?
You must work for the government.
Given the appropriate discount to be used in your NPV analysis, you're talking about approximately $0.002 per Dollar of time value of money. Hardly worth it if someone prefers paying cash.
Why do you need "privacy" for your music listening habits? Geez..it's not like porn.
You commented on a website. This was the only thing that could happen. If the internet was a bathtub, comment sections would be the drain where all the hair and other crap you wash off gets stuck.
Why do I keep hearing this same credit card complaint over and over with Google music, but have never heard the same complaint over Google Play Store?
Are all the complainers pirating their apps, books and movies?
Hey Joe. Does it look like I'm losing? LoL
Don't laugh, the Terminator that Google (AKA Skynet) just hasn't reached you yet. It's probably waiting for you to go to sleep.
So valuing ones privacy is the same as hiding in a bunker with a machine gun and cans of food? Wow I didn't know people were this compliant.
But we knew people were as paranoid as you. It would be sad if it wasn't so funny.
Amazing how you Android people talk about how you demand to be able to control how you use your devices and how you people despise anybody company that tells you how to use or what should go on your devices but the second somebody talks about valuing privacy all of the sudden you so called independent self thinking people turn into lock step little quislings. You people are disgusting little hypocrites. The best part is not one of you privacy hating imbeciles has the brains to intellectually engage me. Instead you little people hurl pathetic insults. Just remember one thing. I was that guy back in high school who was on the football team, banging all the hot chicks and when I wasn't banging hot chicks (sometimes your very own sister's) I was raising your skid marked underwear up the flag pole. Now that I'm done having all that fun I'm here invading all your little nerd spaces and I'm probably having sex with one of your mom's. Have fun with that little thought losers. P.S. I probably tossed one of your dad's into a dumpster.
Hello Pot,, Kettle calling,, dude, you have issues
Just needed to get that of my chest LOL "the pen is mightier than the sword" LOL I feel much better now.
If your that concerned about fraud you should switch banks. My card was compromised 3times in5 years. Never took more than an hour to get my money back.
BTW 2 out of the 3 times it was from the pump at the gas station. I'd be way more worried about things like that or giving my card to a waiter than I would giving it to google. Just sayin
Not in your case, it isn't.
Ace, it's all good. Do you and I'll do me
Something tells me you were the kid in the back of the class smearing his boogers to his seat and letting the glue dry on his hands. Now that you've found the Internet you can turn into whoever you want to be. The closest you've came to sex is one of those sites you have favorite'd to your toolbar. Nice try though...
"...instead you just hurl pathetic little insults..."
I'd engage you, but I don't have an intellectual sword small enough to make it a fair fight.
Once you resort to insult, intellect is lost! Now, you're just sounding silly and paranoid! Does Google sell your internet clicks and interests? Yes! Do they sell your identity? Hell NO! While you're ranting on and on about privacy, can you please tell us how your privacy has been compromised by interacting with Google services, save the myriad of advertisements that they bombard you with? I'm not asking you to give me pontification and theory. I want one real example that we can all relate to where using Google products and services has tangibly compromised your privacy! Please do tell with that gigantic brain of yours. I've always thought of the football jock that gets all the girls, throws dads in dumpsters, and sleeps with my mom as the most intelligent guy in the room! So, here I am, without a single insult, asking you a question that I'd really like to know the answer to.
Well, I love Google but I can think of several ways they violate privacy. Remember the WiFi snooping incident? http://www.wired.com/2014/04/threatlevel_0401_streetview/
Also, I am not alone in getting other people's emails in my Gmail account. I get emails for some Wayne S all the time. I also get these awesome emails from the creators or Mad Men, detailing the advertising budget and how it is being spent. The emails are sent to the CORRECT email address, but still wind up in my inbox. Sure this isn't an intentional privacy violation, but because they haven't fixed the issues it becomes their fault. Google it, there are tons of Google support threads about the issue.
Yeah, let's not go there and keep it civil. This is venturing off topic fast I feel. I don't even like football lol. But I do like chicks ;)
Glad married one. I recommend it. :)
Wait, now I'm just as off topic... Crap

I just ran the last half of your comment through Google Translate and it came out like this:
"I was that pimple-faced fat kid back in high school who was on the chess team, dreaming of banging all the hot chicks while desperately spanking my own monkey in futility and when I wasn't dreaming of hot chicks (sometimes my own mother) I was crying in the restrooms because the cool kids raised my skid marked underwear up the flag pole. Now that I'm a fifty-something loser with a pathetic job flipping burgers and still jealous of all the fun you had as happy well-adjusted youths I'm here invading all your cool tech spaces and I'm probably watching you bang your hot wife through my telescope. Have fun with that little thought people-I-wish-I was. P.S. I probably got tossed by one of your dad's into a dumpster, which is why I'll likely end up a serial killer."
Wow! I guess Google doesn't like you and all that privacy data it collected on you over the years was used to paint a picture of who you really are.
For a guy who purports to be more intelligent than others here, your writing style suggests a grade-school education at best. Yeah, I'm going down the grammar-police path, but I'd like to suggest you Bing search things like paragraphs, commas, hyphens, and the proper use of the apostrophe. Granted, forum comments sections are rife with poorly constructed thoughts, but yours was just to funny to ignore.
You have issues my man, using the internet to make you feel better about yourself is pretty low. Oh and Google asks for your credit card info so they know what country you're in. This is how they distribute their deals and your Play market to you. People worry about their "privacy" far too much. Some of us are too self important. Also how can anyone be upset with Google for using the little information they really have on you to make their ad money? Especially with all of the free and reliable services they offer users.
Wow, you've resorted to ad hominem attacks. That means you lost. Badly.
And the fact that you felt you needed to brag about all your, ahem, "conquests" is a good indicator it never happened either. Epic failure for Ace. You are probably exactly what you accuse everyone here of being, but that is mere speculation. Either way, you have cheapened your manhood today in this discussion. Show some dignity, dude, or failing that just some basic self control. You will never gain respect for yourself or your views with the behavior you used today.
Good luck in life. I hope you get it figured out, because as you already know, it sucks to suck.
And some see conspiracy way to easily
Using your information to make money =/= selling personally identifiable information. Your credit card number doesn't tell Google anything it doesn't already know about you except your name. You think you're so important that they give two shits what your name is?

Google is Probably one of the Only Online places I trust with my CC. Of most of my accounts I have had Ebay, Amazon, Steam, etc, I have never had a problem with a hack or attack at my account, but did with most others.
So paying for things with a credit card is not valuing your freedom? So paying with my credit card at the grocery store is dangerous? How insane are you? Is it just meds, or do you have weekly therapy sessions?
Nice hijack of a thread that should have been a fun discussion.
I guess you've never used a credit card ever. Anywhere. Get real.
I just thought that maybe it would be a perk of being a Google/Android user to be able to store and synch your music on their service at no charge. Maybe some of you feel comfortable giving your personal info to just anybody but I don't. I don't see the need to for them to have to have my credit card on file.
Tin foil futures are bright.
I'm actually surprised that a grown adult who is enthusiastic enough about Android to visit tech blogs doesn't have his Google Wallet set up to make play store purchases. In any case, it's not that surprising given that most subscription-related services require this from you in order to be able to do anything at all.
It's your right not to give anyone any information that you don't feel comfortable sharing, but understand that you're in the vast minority when it comes to how this capitalist world spins the wheels.
Dude, you can. You can purchase music with prepaid cards or go the true android fashion and just download the MP3's off an app or the internet. And you say Android users as though it is an insult and yet you are on an App/Website dedicated to android things. Why come here if not to troll?
There's no such thing as a free lunch. You can plug your phone into your computer and load your music files onto your phone for free, but do you really expect to be able to upload them onto someone else's server and then stream at your fancy and not be charged for it? Here let me just park my car at your place and use your utilities... for free.
For you to upload your music to Google music and stream it costs you nothing ! So, no your wrong dickhead
+1 minus the dickhead part.
The real question is why do you have an android phone? Get a black phone Mr. Paranoid.
If Google is selling our information it shouldn't be a huge deal because they aren't charging out bank accounts or credit card. You've been on the internet for a long time your information is already out there
Maybe, my information is spread put in cells. I have many online "me's" that work on a need to know basis. There is the main me, that quite frankly I don't care much for and that's like my Facebook, Instagram, and personal email account. There is the throwaway me that is used to login know services that are not the main ones. It functions under the name Yoshi Munchakoopas. And then there is my work email, amd that's for professional contact and that alone. It doesn't have a search history nor does it have anything associated with it other that specific emails.
I just broke up the facets of my life because I'm a slightly distrustful person. I'm sure someone could put it all together. I even went through the trouble of using all of them on separate devices and using two of them through VPN's
"I just thought..."
See, right from the get go you were full of it. We all know that didn't happen.
Do you ever buy an app on Google play or whatever platform you're on? If yes, I wonder how you do it. If No, I you should just stop talking anyway.
No, he has previously referred to himself as tech savvy on another play music article. While he struggled to understand how the app even works, he claimed tech savvy people do not pay for apps... Or music, apparently.
It's so if u want to buy music it's already on file...there isn't a charge
Good grief, just use a pre-paid credit card if you're that worried about it. If you use cards of any kind at all then your information is already out there anyway though. Every store you go to has there own databases online. Why do you think hackers keep penetrating basic businesses systems other than to get large caches of peoples data.
Due diligence is the only real option, save for moving to the woods and living off the grid. There is no real middle ground anymore. /rant
You have a valid point aside from the moving off the grid part which is just absurd.
That was my point, the only alternative option IS absurd. I tell people everyday when they come to the store I work in that they can order something online and they say silly stuff like I never shop online because that's not safe. Hello! Targets databases were hacked chick-fil-a hacked, the IRS was even hacked! There is NO safe zone so pay attention and be diligent. You are no more safe eating at a fast food joint than ordering from amazon, at least Google certainly has better security than chick-fil-a.
I went threw the same thing trying to convince customers to order a product online.
All I'm saying is I thought I would be able to synch my music to Google Play Music without having to have a credit card on file. I'm very surprised at the way people attacked just because I DON'T want to have my credit card of file Judd to do this. Then again all a person has to do on any Android forum is say they like touchwiz and almost instantly the insults fly. It doesn't say much for the Android community at all.
Before all access you could sync your music.
"Nothing I shoot ever gets back up again."
Thanks that's what I thought initially. I've only been an Android person for a year now. I'm still learning
Both you and other people could've made your opinion more clear. Yes people like to argue and people are going to. There's no way to stop it. Best thing to do is ignore it or if you didn't mean anything rude try and state it which honestly from going through the comments I didn't really see anyone do. I know this comment is probably gonna be useless but I want to post it because I haven't posted a comment like this in a really long time. I actually try to avoid commenting at all on anything. Why? Because of stuff like this. You saw how people will misunderstand and start something.
Oh my god. THANK YOU. People draw waay too many conclusions. In the blink of an eye! Look at all this! And all he said was something like "I don't want to have my card on file with Google" then a brief explanation. And people are all this way and that about all these "other things" that somehow just magically appear out of what the orginal comment said .. wow .. not even amazed. I'm more sickened by what all these people are drawing out of this as if it pertains and then forcing them on the original poster and then making him defend himself .. that's gross .. ..
Loyalty cards like Air Miles sole purpose is to track every single purchase you make and create a profile that companies can use to send you personalized advertisements and promotions to you directly. They want to know who you are, your spending habits, when you spend and where at all times. Nobody really looks at these cards nefariously because people are just interested in collecting the "points". Google is pretty upfront about why many of their services are "free" and give you the option to opt of some of the privacy concerns or just choose another platform. Credit card companies themselves ALREADY sell your information about your purchases. Information is commerce. Pay cash for everything and stay of the internet if you value your privacy this much. Otherwise, get off your soapbox.
I am very thankful for all the free Music YouTube provides for its users. 5 stars for YouTube!
In above response. You understand commenting on here makes you traceAble to you right...? Anyone with knowledge could easily make your fears come true.
Please................ just by you saying that has bought me all the protection I need.
Google music also gives away a bunch of free music on the play store. If you don't want to use your card either do the prepaid card or you can grab Google opinion rewards and take the first survey which will give you a $1 credit on the play store. You can then take advantage of the free offers without a credit card and it won't take anything from the $1.
Thanks. That's good advice. I didn't know I could do that. Awesome
Glad to be able to help. I wasn't trying to pick on you. My whole problem with the perception of security by privacy is really that some people think if they don't give their information out they'll be safe which leads to them not paying as much attention to their statements and balances. This is the problem now, the privacy genie is already out of the bottle and she isn't going back in. People must adapt to the new situation, check accounts often, use charge alerts, monitor everything. Don't get caught in the cold with only the false blanket of security by privacy. It doesn't work anymore because there's way to many attack vectors.
Exactly. For awhile their I went and opened many many accounts. Until one day I realized that I was having a hard time managing all those accounts I opened. So I basically went about closing any accounts that I didn't need.
Here's my suggestion, set up a PayPal debit card. use it until your heart is content. It's the only one you'll need. All of your purchases are secured by PayPal. There are no fees to use the card other than loading money into the account, which I choose to do by using prepaid loading cards. They will ask you to back the card with a true bank account, but that set up is to insure that your online purchases get honored even if your PayPal account is short. I'll give you a real life example of why I love my PayPal. I returned an item that I had purchased with my PayPal card, but I failed to get the tracking number before I sent the item back. The company claimed to have not ever received the item which was BS! It never came back to me and I sent it out directly to the address they required of me! I had made several calls to them to refund my money, but they hung on the argument that they couldn't refund the money without a tracking number. However, the directions they gave me did not state that I needed to have a tracking number I did purchase the item through PayPal, so i called them to open a dispute. Long story shorter.... I had my money back in ten days. Thanks PayPal! In effect, the PayPal card is a preloaded card, but it works as well as your bank account. Can someone steal your information and charge tons of stuff? I suppose, but they are really good about getting your money back to you in a hurry if you have a valid dispute. I'm Just giving another suggestion....
Smart guy like you can't manage a few different online identities? That's just sad.
As far as phones are concerned I just have a Google account.
acelucero75, Just go away! I have so much stuff to say about you right now, but you aren't worth it.
He's not really saying anything .. pay close attention to the ones he's making and the ones everyone else is making. Sounds like everyome is getting a little carried away with this .. ..
Google knows what Alex did last summer too.... Google knows too much. Apparently Google knows even more than Google... Scary stuff folks but so intriguing that I bow down as one of many "subjects".
Posted via AC app by way of my right thumb.
It really is scary. Every Saturday night Google now suggests directions to the hookah lounge I usually frequent on Saturday nights and on Sunday morning it suggests directions and time to my church. I like having an assistant who knows my habits but it is kinda scary LOL
How do you get recommendations for what you're feeling?
I would think it was obvious, but I was wrong. How do you get those type of recommendations in Google Music?
It's based on what you're listening to recently.
By being British or American.
Music to slash your wrists by... Those Google guys think of everything. Serve up some depression/suicide based ads as the music plays. Got to admire that spirit. Algorithms gone horribly right.
Seriously though, The holidays are the most depressing time of the year and Google knows it.
It's not algorithms. It's curated by humans at Songza which Google acquired.
I'm pretty sure it was intended to be humorous. I found it amusing.
Lmao that's hilarious
Good that is likely to happen only once a year!
Lol. Google often has the quirkiest sense of humor.
I use Google Play music all the time, and I have never been asked to enter any credit card info. I just uploaded quite a few new music cds on it last night in fact. I love it because I can carry up to 20,000 songs from my personal music library wherever I go. Hell, I don't even listen to FM radio anymore.
Soooooooooooo you recently went online to create a Google Play Music account and it did not ask you to enter a method of payment? Really?
You can actually skip that step if you want to, I did for a few months then the gift card I was using for steam got down to a few cents so I added that to my Google account. I have a second account I actually use Google wallet through. So yes, you can do Music with no money. To take advantage of the free albums you need a payment method, but you won't be charged.
How do I set it up where I can synch my music? When I tried creating an account a few days ago it asked for a credit card.
Use the music Manger program. It's a download.
I told my friend about Google play music and didn't need a credit card to sign up, they used PayPal as the payment option
Google music is free...I don't have a credit card on file and I have tons of music on it
How do I set it up where I can synch my music?
You need the application on your computer which then syncs the music in your PC with your google account. If you had taken the time to investigate you wouldn't have posted all that nonsense up above.
What is wrong with you people?
Alex is in crisis, who reached out to Phil, who reached out to us!
ALEX! STEP AWAY FROM THE ENYA! Spin up some kick ass rock and roll*
*I'd make specific recommendations but I am prohibited by marriage to mention my favorite band... plus I'm over 50.
Babymetal?? Because Give Me Chocolate is my jam.
That's awesome.. Too bad those playlists or any at all haven't rolled out in Germany, yet! :(
For those of you to scared to open a Google wallet acvount due to security concerns, just get an Obama phone. They are free. This is perfect for the lazy assholes that believe you should get something for nothing. That things should just be handed to you. It's the democratic way. If you want to stop the epidemic of lazy- good for nothing sons of bitches getting freebies, stop voting for Democrats! They are ones who hate successful people
Did you form these feelpinions whilst being molested by a dolphin? It certainly seems that way
I suppose it takes a hater to know a hater! This is for the hater in you, Orlando...I hope your daughter or your wife or your girl is riding a thick black dick as you read this post! That way at least you'll have a good reason to hate! Lol! Maybe you should try taking one up the ass too, to see what all of the excitement is about! LMAO!
Your a funny guy...the hater in me.....your right I hate Obama do to his destroying of this country. Stealing from the wealthy to give to the poor, he thinks that ok. He is a pathological liar. He is the liar in chief.
You are the piece of shit who made this about race ! I never mentioned race, who is the dumbfuck now
Yeah...that horrible Obama destroying the nation with a better economy, a record stock market, and healthcare accessible to people that were shut out before. How awful!
The Obama derangement syndrome is strong in you Padawan.
Wow, just wow.
+25 for the Songza team
Holy wasted space and bright orange color Batman! Too bad Google doesn't know how to properly space things and tone down the cartoonish colors in their "wonderful" Material Design! Ugh, looks like something made for kids. :(
That's too funny lmaol

If Google Play Music is capable of learning, or knows what I want, why does it recommend such awful music to me?
I listen to classic rock, hard rock, heavy metal, punk, and blues rock. So why does GPM always recommend pop, rap, and hip-hop?
Every free song and album GPM sticks in my music library I delete.
What is wrong with a quarter of the people commenting about this post?
Ok don't use a credit card. If he doesn't want to use his card so what? If he is afraid of losing his privacy let him be afraid and don't comment about it. Stop talking about the president of the united states and political parties. Stop talking about anyone riding anything. This is not the place for any of this talk.
I'm just saying I thought I would be able to Synch my music to Google Play Music without having to use a credit card. From what people on here have told me I can use a gift card of some sort which I'm willing to do.
Or pay pal
Omg I just read the insane political comments above. Wow! All I have to say is please don't ruin this amazing site by pumping your insane political views in here. Politics and religion are so divisive
LOL, "Wallowing in self pity"
On the HUGE discussion about Google selling your personal info,
1) selling info and using it for advertising are completely different.
2) am I the only one who actually LIKES giving my info to Google so I can get custom tailored directions, ads, etc? Google Now even tells you where you left your car in a parking lot, as I discovered this morning (new Android user), which is totally awesome. And plus, am I the only one who'd rather have relevant ads (e.g. for me, since I'm looking to build a PC, "ASUS X97 Motherboards 20% off on Amazon) rather than irrelevant ones? (E.g. ads like those disgusting "only play this game if you're over 18" games that 12 year olds play)
