Apple recently rolled out a new version of its operating system that contained a number of new emoji, and many Android users were bummed they couldn't see them. The complaints have been heard, as Google's senior vice president of Android, Hiroshi Lockheimer, has tweeted that the company is on it. Now, what exactly "on it" means is up for your interpretation, but we wouldn't expect to see these things appearing immediately.
So I have a feeling y'all want new emojis? a) Thanks for the feedback, b) We're on it, and c) Sorry!— Hiroshi Lockheimer (@lockheimer) October 23, 2015
As you can see, there is no mention of timeline, or how Google would bring the new emoji to Android. If they come included in an updated version of Android, it could very well take quite a long time for them to become widespread, and even that would still leave those with older Android devices out of the fun. Either way, it's great to see Google listening to the users, and here's to hoping they can get everyone those new emoji in a timely fashion.
