CES, which takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada every January, used to be the most important tech trade show for mobile announcements — but it's been largely supplanted by Mobile World Congress (in Barcelona in early March) and IFA (in Berlin in late August). Still, CES is a critical launching pad for products in the periphery of mobile, from augmented and virtual reality to 5G and autonomous cars. It serves as a great place to show off outlandish new tech that may or may not actually make it out into the world, and if you follow the show understanding that from the start it's quite enjoyable to see.
