Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. If you're not yet using the one and only Android Central App — that'd be our official app on Android for reading about Android — it's time to take another look. We've been doing a lot of work behind the scenes the past six months or so.
The biggest change, of course, was an major refresh to Material Design. And we're not 100 percent done with that yet, either. That pesky swiping carousel thing is on its last legs, for instance. But if it's been a while since you updated (and we know who you are) or if you've yet to give the app a shot, now is a really good time to check it out.
A couple other recent updates we want to make you aware of:
- Rotating from portrait to landscape no longer loses your place in a story or in an index. Huzzah.
- The widget's gotten a good refresh. And you can tap on Lloyd to be taken straight to the index in the app.
- Comments and forums now have a floating action button. Because you like actions. And we like buttons.
- We've also consolidated the code a good bit, removing multidex and along with it some permissions that weren't needed any longer. That's always a good thing.
And probably the most important news is that we're not finished yet. We're getting close including search. We're still working on notifications. And we might have a few other tricks up our sleeve. Or, rather, Google Developer Expert Mike Wolfson might. He's been doing the coding and deserves a beer or three.
That's it for now. If you want to get in on the update action before anyone else, feel free to join our beta track. And stay tuned for more!
