Android 2.1+ Two weeks ago, Twitter announced it was developing its own official Android app. Today, that client was released. You can find it now in the Android Market. [link] There's been a bit of gnashing of teeth over whether Twitter is effectively stabbing outside developers in the back. But after just a few minutes with the app, that's certainly not the case yet, for a couple reasons. One is that the app is open source -- Google will release the code. The other is that, so far, the app is pretty simple.
That's not to say the app is bad. Far from it. But it's pretty basic. It currently only handles one account at a time (that's a deal-breaker for me). Tweets are displayed simply but effectively. You won't have a problem reading them. All of the usual features are there -- search, retweet (only native retweets, unfortunately), picture upload, etc. But the bells and whistles that you find on such apps as Seesmic and Twidroid keep them at the top of our must-have Twitter app list for now. Well this is annoying. It synced Twitter photos for people on my contacts list and I lost photos. Needs an option for Sync contacts but not photos. I'd rather use my Facebook photos for most of my friends I also follow on Twitter.
Okay...figured it out! If you want to keep your Facebook pictures instead of the new sync'ed Twitter pictures...go to the contact click edit contact scroll to the bottom click on the picture for Facebook and it will prompt...use this picture instead...click yes....whallla!

How did you get twitter to show up on maps?
i think the google maps is a part of the geotag.but my question is..well my statement.i dont have the contact linkage.like when i click on a picture it doesnt give me the option to txt.is it because i'm using a rooted Sprint HERO with 2.1 flashed???

Im waiting on TweetDeck to release their Android client. I have a feeling that it will blow the competition away, with Touiteur coming in second.

I love these apps but I can never get into twitter. It just all seems so pointless. I wish I loved twitter just so I could use this app. :)

Not having the retweet options is pretty annoying. However, is there something that autocompletes peoples twitter name when you begin typing? For instance if I were to type @andr would it suggest @androidcentral to me?

There is nothing better than Seesmic. Touiteur, while good is not free. With Seesmic available as free and with the last update, its the best right now.
If anyone prefers the old way of retweeting: I uploaded a tiny app called ReTweet to the Android Market, which enables you to retweet the old way using the official Twitter app!
