We've rolled over into 2015, and that means the major yearly update to the official MLS soccer app is here. This year the design changes are big to fit in with the overall re-branding of MLS itself, from the new logo down to the strong use of white with small accents of red and blue across the app. You may also notice that the app is no longer called "MLS Matchday," and is instead just "MLS" in the Play Store.
A new "Must-see videos" section adorns the top of the page, with the standard scrolling list of news underneath and other sections of content hiding behind a slide-in drawer on the left. You can now select NYCFC and Orlando City SC as a favorite club, and the new schedule view can be sorted to view all competitions, specific leagues or just your favorite clubs. Alerts are also now better handled on a club-by-club basis in the settings.
The entire app seems smooth and quick on both my Galaxy Note 4 and Nexus 7 — and I'm happy to report that content finally scales properly (and works in landscape) on tablets, which will be a welcomed addition to anyone who used the past "tablet" version on their own large-screened device. You can snag a download or update at the Play Store link above, and count down to the first kick of the season on March 6.
