Google has introduced a new service today that makes it easier for people to compare different car insurance plans.

Called Google Compare for car insurance, the tool allows people to compare offerings from a current list of 14 partners — though it's only available to those in California at launch.

Google announced the service through its AdWords blog earlier today, highlighting some of the features that should make it attractive for insurance providers and customers alike:

Whether you're a national insurance provider or one local to California, people searching for car insurance on their phone or computer can find you along with an apples-to-apples comparison of other providers -- all in as little as 5 minutes. You can highlight what makes your business unique, whether that's an "A" rating in customer service or better discounts for safe drivers. And when users adjust their deductible or add additional cars to their quote, you can show updated pricing that matches their needs. They can then buy their policy online or over the phone through one of your agents.

As noted above, the service is only available to people in California at the moment, but Google notes that it will eventually roll out to more states across the U.S., along with new features such as reviews and ratings. If you happen to live in California and want to check the tool out for yourself, you can do so from the link below.
