At IFA, Alcatel OneTouch announced two new handsets targeted at the entry-level segment, the Pop Star and Pop Up. With a focus on customizability, the Pop Star will be available in a variety of back cover options, including plastic, leather and denim.

The Pop Star's specs highlight a handset that's distinctly entry-level, with a 5-inch 720p display, quad-core 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6580 SoC, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage, 8MP camera at the back, 5MP front camera, microSD slot, dual-SIM functionality and a 2,000mAh battery. There's also an LTE-enabled variant that features the 64-bit MediaTek MT6735P and 16GB storage, with the rest of the innards staying the same.

The Pop Up comes with better hardware in the form of a 5-inch 720p display, octa-core 1.4GHz Snapdragon 610 SoC, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, 13MP camera, 5MP front shooter and dual-SIM connectivity. While the phone doesn't have as many customization options as the Pop Star, you still get to choose from a variety of back colors: Black, Riva Blue, Amber Orange, White and Strawberry Red.

Pricing and availability information is yet to be finalized. What are your thoughts on the customizability of the latest Pop handsets?
