LG Revolution system dump has Netflix

40

Although the LG Revolution was announced quite a while ago now, there is still no sign of it being launched. No matter -- we all have the HTC Thunderbolt to hold us over but that doesn't mean the LG Revolution news has to stop. For those of you who like to dig through system dumps you'll find the LG Revolution to contain some interesting items. Although I'm sure most of you out there will only be concerned with one -- Netflix.

Yes, if you dig deep enough into the system dump you'll find there is a Netflix install file in there. We knew it was going to be loaded, as we've seen it in the past but the system dump turning up was a surprise. We've not put it to the test but I was however able to log in just fine. That said, if you do get it working let us know in the comments. [AndroidSpin]

HTC Thunderbolt user manual now online

14

We know you won't stop to look at it this coming Thursday when you rip the box apart on your new HTC Thunderbolt, so here's where you can read the Tbolt's user manual online -- while you're waiting for them to hit the shelves.  It's mostly basic stuff that you veterans already know, but if this is your first foray into the world of Android you really should spend a few minutes and have a look.  Check it out at the source link, and if you have any questions or just want to talk about it, get into the Thunderbolt forums! (.pdf warning) [Verizon] Thanks, Steven!

Wunderlist for Android - Sync your tasks on the go!

10

Wunderlist has finally made its way to the Android Market. Great timing as well, since they have just surpassed 1 Million downloads. If you're unfamiliar with Wunderlist, it's a personal task manager application that is available for Windows and Mac users that lets you synchronize all of your tasks from your home computer to your mobile device or vice versa. While the idea itself is rather simple, it's the simplicity of it all that makes it my preferred task manager application.

You just simply fill in what your task is, when you need it completed by and that's it! If you wish to go further with it, Wunderlist also allows you to sort your to-do's by date, mark completed and even "star" special events that you need reminding of-- and of course, once completed you can check them off as such as well. Toss in some added cool stuff like customizable backgrounds and a web accessible version and you have a pretty complete tool at your disposal.

If you need to maintain a to-do list or task manager give Wunderlist a look. Again, the simplicity of it when added with the extra functions makes it a great overall application. Wunderlist is available for free from the Android Market and the desktop versions can be downloaded from their website. Jump on past the break for the Android app link to get started.

Carphone Warehouse hits 1 million Androids sold, sales up over 2000%

3

It's no secret that Android is big in Europe. Now UK retailer the Carphone Warehouse has given us a new set of ridiculous sales numbers to show just how far the platform has come in the past twelve months. In a press release marking their one millionth Android handset sold, Carphone boasts that its sales of Android phones have grown "well over" 2,000 percent over the past year, a number it describes as "phenomenal".

The Carphone Warehouse has won exclusivity deals for a number of desirable Android devices over the past few months. Until recently it was the only place to get hold of Samsung's Nexus S in the UK, and it currently has similar exclusivity agreements worked out for the HTC Incredible S and Motorola Xoom 3G. Carphone's full press release can be found after the jump.

Motorola Milestone finally gets Froyo update

10

Motorola has finally released a Froyo update for the Milestone, the international version of the OG Droid. Responding to an "extremely high number of requests" for Froyo from Milestone owners, Motorola is now offering the update package direct from its support website.

Today's update will be welcomed by frustrated Milestone users who have been stuck with Eclair since launch, while Droid owners across the pond were among the first to get a taste of Froyo back in August 2010. Users can check Moto's release notes to find out exactly what to expect from today's update.  [Motorola Support]

HTC Pyramid shows up online in some early renders

65

The HTC Pyramid, a 4.3 inch device that will be powered by a 1.2GHz processor has shown itself on the internet again. In addition to this, the device will have 768MB of RAM along with an 8MP rear and 1.3MP front facing camera on board. The rear of the device shows Google branding, but lacks the "with HTC Sense" that we are used to seeing on these devices, and the device is said to be running Android 3.0, Honeycomb. Now, we are unsure of the truth behind all these specs, but we sure do hope that HTC will confirm all of this for us next week at CTIA. [Pocketnow via XDA.cn]

Motorola Xoom review

62

Big, black and powerful. That pretty much sums up the Motorola XOOM (henceforth to be referred to as the more eye-friendly Xoom), the opening salvo in what is about to be a deluge of tablets running Android 3.0 Honeycomb. And the Xoom not only ushers in a major change to the Android operating system, it also launches a new era in mobile hardware, faster and more powerful than ever.

But for all that, the usual questions remain. Does the Xoom match up with the competition? And does it justify the price? And is the darn thing just too big and too heavy? All that and another picture or two, after the break.

Google adds app download statistics to Android Market developer portal

11

Google has flip the switch on app download statistics, giving developers a cool look at who is downloading their apps, where they're from and what devices they're using. You get a Google Finance-like chart showing the total number of downloads, and breakdowns for OS version, device, country and language.

The example you see above is for the old Android Central Widget (which we no longer support, but it still works). Here's the breakdown for the widget, which has 11,400 installations:

  • 80.6 percent of users are on Android 2.2. Android 2.1 has 13.8 percent, and Android 2.3.3 third at 1.8 percent.
  • 25.6 percent of those who use the widget are using an HTC EVO 4G. The Motorola Droid X is next at 16 percent, followed by the Droid Incredible at 10.6 percent.
  • 91.9 percent of the widget's users are in the United States. The UK is second at 1.6 percent, followed by Canada at 0.9 percent.

So it's a cool little look at who's using what. If you're a developer with an app or two in the Market, be sure to check it out.
