FIOS app

Network news and weather also added to select markets

Verizon has updated their FIOS app for Android, and now users are able to stream select channels while not on their local Wifi. Folks with the correct configuration — FIOS Internet and TV service, and a set-top box — can now watch live TV from BBC America, BBC World News, EPIX, NFL Network (tablet only), Tennis Channel and networks from Scripps Networks Interactive including Food Network and Travel Channel. In addition, customers in New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. can watch local network news and weather at home from ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox affiliates, as well as Spanish-language channels UniMas and Univision.

You can get the updated FIOS app from the Google Play link above.

Update: The app link seems to be no longer available. We've verified it is the same link that previously worked, and is the same link given at the original source. We're investigating.

At least it's a start.

Agreed. Content licensing on Android is hard, because what the community did with the original Netflix app scared everyone away lol.

Nice to see Verizon doing things for their customers, instead of to their customers :)

What happened with the original Netflix App? Did people hack it so the content could be archived offline?

They hacked it to work on devices that weren't DRM-certified to run it. Yes, DRM, and especially needing certification that you meet DRM standards, is total bullshit, but it's the type of thing movie studios require.

Is that what's holding up ATT uverse on delivering any content on Android?

Is this app not available on the Nexus 4? My family just switched to FiOS yesterday so I wanted to take advantage of this but it says "Item not found" when I click the link from the AC app.

Not just you. I used the link to help write the post, so it was working just a short while ago.

Would help if I could install the darn thing on any of my devices...

How are you suppose to stream "away from home" when Vzn offers such a measly amount of data?!?!?

Well yesterday my rooted gs3 was returning a message via the fios app that my device had been altered and would not be able to play streaming content. My unrooted galaxy tab played fine.. Today i just get a blank screen, no streaming and no more message.. Tab still works fine though....Edit: ok well the blank screen is with the fios app, but the Media Manager vz app returns the message "we have detected that your device had been modified in a manor that does not comply with content protection requirements..etc" i assume that my blank screen in the fios app is the same thing but no message. SUCKS!
