One Mini 2 vs GS5 Mini

How do HTC and Samsung's 'minis' compare on paper?

Samsung this morning announced the Galaxy S5 Mini, the latest device in its line of miniature Android flagships. With a 4.5-inch 720p display and a physical design and feature set matching its big brother, the obvious comparison for the GS5 Mini is HTC's One Mini 2, launched just over a month ago.

If you're wondering how these two "minis" compare in terms of raw hardware numbers, then check out our comparison table below.

Also, it's pretty established that most people don't like the black bar at all. I didn't buy one because of it.

Most people say they don't like the black bar and then go praise the iPhone with its huge bezels. And the xperia phones. If there weren't speakers there those would be some pretty impressive bezels on the HTC.

I can't see why everyone's screaming 'BEZZZELS!' with the M8 when really few do it with the Z2. Or maybe people are just sheeps.

Posted via Android Central App

Well the Z2's bezels are slimmer, since there's no huge black bar

Agreed. Next year it will be gone. The phone was too far along in the design process to exclude it this year when they decided to drop the capacitive buttons.

Exactly. Like if you get the Galaxy S5 Mini, you get a phone that isn't quite as attractive and doesn't have quite as polished a UI, but you also don't have to have the dumbest-named phone ever.

the stupid black bar above the screen on samsung phones also contains the phone speaker, light sensors, and the front camera. so your point is invalid.

the point being made is that the htc black bar literally is useless. doesnt need to be there for any practical purpose.

Actually, it does. There are components underneath it that have to be there because of the speakers.

Isn't the Moto X still cheaper than these minis? Can't go wrong with either motorolas, the X does have warranty protection on the screen one time though in case you drop it that the G doesn't

Agreed. I'd take the X over either of these devices. Though if I had to choose between these two, I'd probably go with the Sammy simply due to the extra RAM, likely better camera, and removable battery.

Funny guy. That was a good one. Wonder who go out sell more? What's ur opinion on that? Don't have to ask you who outselling between the htc one m8 vs gs5. We already know that answer. Lol

You are aware that sells doesn't determine which is better? Or are you too daft to comprehend that.

I think he was making fun of Samsung for lag but in reality, it's still true. TouchWiz requires more RAM compared to the relatively light Sense 6.

...and fingerprint sensor and heart rate sensor and a faster processor and OLED and....

The HTC has more megapixels (but I'd guess it's the typicla low quality sensors they've always used) and is a lot bigger and heavier. I guess HTC are winning at all the wrong points.. :D

And yet the one mini will still run faster than the S5 mini thanks to touchwiz.

Based on TouchWiz's record, I'd wager that extra ram and processor clocking won't help the Samsung Mini beat the HTC One Mini in performance.

I am an HTC guy and I read reviews for the HTC mini and most said that that even though it had a 13 MP camera it still wasn't very good.

Both have good and bad. The camera on the HTC is nice but I like the 1.5 ram on the S5mini. currently have the S4 but looking to possible make a change.

The real question is: HTC One M7 or HTC One Mini 2?

Personally I would choose the S5 Mini, due to the extra RAM, water resistance, and removable battery. But I could totally understand if someone picked the HTC, due to its better camera and stereo speakers. It all depends on what features are important to you.

Of course, depending on what price these phones end up at, the LTE version of the Moto G (which is similar spec-wise) could easily end up being the better deal.

But HTCmini im sure its faster with 500mb less ram. Samsung need more ram becouse touchwiz is very bad

Posted via Android Central App

You must not have used an S5 and M8. The M8 is significantly faster than the S5, despite a lower clock speed. All because of touchwiz.

So, you're also arguing that less RAM makes a faster phone? Try harder? I'm sure the games on the HTC will even be forced to use less detailed textures because of the lack of RAM....

More RAM doesn't mean more memory for the GPU? Really? Where do you think a GPU stores the textures? in the camera?

I'm not the douche here, but I guess you know that already if you're a bit honest.

Yeah but they would be made out of cast Iron so everyone would talk about how solid the build quality is. I am not moving that crap.

If u need more MP camera faster phone the best design the best UI the best screen better battery better build quality the best speakers choose HTCmini

I can see why Google is probably being pressured to stop selling Nexus phones at cost. I'd take a Nexus 4 or 5 over these, probably save money and get better specs.

Instead of this being called "QUICK comparison" it should've been called "MINI comparison"

har har har, couldnt resist...

I laugh when i see people crying over the "Bezels" cause as much as everyone hates then when you read the reviews on all other tech sites when they compare all the current phones alot of them still have the M8 being one of the best phones out right now. :)

People always seem to forget about the Droid Mini. Sure, it's only on Verizon but it's worth mentioning because it's the only "Mini" I'm aware of that has the same hardware as the non-mini versions and Moto X fwiw. I think it's personally the best mini out there and very underrated. No, I don't have one.
- 1.7GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 Pro, faster individual cores than in the GS5 Mini or the HTC One Mini 2
- Adreno 320 (this GPU is better than you get with the GS5 Mini or HTC One Mini 2
- 4.3" 720x1280 LCD, sure smaller but higher DPI for you DPI junkies out there
- 2GB of RAM
- 2000mAh batter
- Wireless charging
- NFC
- low power contextual processor and low power natural voice processor
- Android 4.4 with 4.4.4 coming

+1, I like Sony's Xperia Z series too. I didn't know they had a high end compact/mini version! Nice! I think that and the Droid Mini should be listed in comparison to the GS5 Mini and the HTC One Mini 2.

it is not about forgetting it. That is great if you are on Verizon but on 3/4 of the mobile world it is useless. It follows along with Sony not being that popular in the US. Sure you can get it, but out of sight out of mind

Omg people stop complaining on the black bar on the HTC phone. It was placed on the m8 and they explained why it was there.

No one's going to buy these except parents for their spoiled kids so they won't have the ultimate phones to trash and look super rich, but still have the latest tech. A better quality phone will only be a few dollars more initially, and 4.5" is small in Android world now. Fill in the 'what phones?' list for yourselves.
Do I deserve abuse for that comment?

HTC all the way baby.. :-) Best experience of my life is with an HTC device.. Once you go HTC you NEVER go back..!!

Even though the One Mini 2 looks better and has a better camera, given the choice I'd probably get the S5 mini due to specs and dust/waterproofing. Plus removable battery.
