AT&T Galaxy S II update

The AT&T Galaxy S II is getting a nice little update this morning that brings its Android version number to 2.3.6. A number of people have reported that the update failed at first, but others have installed it with nary a hitch. Go to Settings>About Phone and give it a shot, then hit the link below to see how it's going for everyone else.

AT&T Galaxy S II Android 2.3.6 update pushed out

It's actually:
Settings > Software update > Check for updates

And I'm on 3.2.4 and my device is telling me I'm up to date. Guess I'll have to be patient.

Honeycomb eh?
Haha I think you switched a couple numbers around.
Anyway, my dad's SGSII updated last night...only thing he noticed different was blue overscroll. It would be nice to see a full change log though.

I am also sitting here with my dads sgs2 but its saying the his phone is up to date (2.3.4). I guess I will try again later.

I definitely prefer it to the bounce but if I liked the bounce more I'd probably be pissed. They most likely are taking away the bounce because of patent issues but it would be nice if they at least allowed you to customize the color of the overscroll since some people may not care for the blue.

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think it has carrierIQ. I checked with both things and they came up negative for carrierIQ. my phone is rooted though.

no mention as in "if a tree falls in the woods and no one is there, does it make a sound?" kind of mention?

Usually root won't block updates, and it didn't interfere with the 2.3.6 update on my Sprint Galaxy S2. Root usually just adds files, and the verification step of the update is making sure a set list of files haven't been deleted or modified. It's more likely that you've messed with something in system after rooting that is part of the CRC. You'll probably have to undo whatever that is, or flash a stock ROM. You may be able to find a list of the files it verifies on XDA.

Only thingi notice is the blue flash when scrolling. Only annoying when in the browser. And then only when scrolling side to side.

Be nice if there was nothing instead of blue flash.

Fracking Apple bullsh..t.

What other colours can you customise the blue overall to? Is there a more light hearted colour?

I've had the blue scroll thing since i initially purchased my phone which already had 2.3.5 on it. plus GPS is absolutely fantastic and there was no home button lag for me. maybe should wait a bit for the changelog and then decide whether to update. I'm also rooted will that prevent me to update?

I doubt any of these will be changed, but I would like to be able to get rid of the vibrate icon when on vibrate always, and I hate that pictures in the messages app show up as 5 second slideshows.

I've been trying to search for a solution to the video text messages in the forums. Is that just an unfixed bug? Happened with Captivate too if I remember correctly

I use Go SMS and it doesn't do that with pictures. It also separates out multi pic MMS into individual pics unlike the slideshow way all others do.

Now it'd just be nice if I could get the 2.3.6 update on my skyrocket that was supposedly being pushed out but it criously MIA...

Mine says I'm currently up to date on 2.3.4, but "Continue Update" is grayed out on my software update screen?

-No CIQ
-bootloader has changed
-KK6 modem
-Android 2.3.6
-touchscreen is more accurate
-lockscreen security issue fixed
-disabled home button double tap to launch voice control
-overscroll glow is used now instead of bounce effect at the end of scrolling
-browser scrolling no longer locks to a vertical or horizontal plane
-a bunch of small, under the hood code changes

Does anyone know where in the phone the update file is kept? It was downloaded but didn't install .. And what's the process if any to installing it manually

Boo my rooted ROM (unNamed 1.31) doesn't have that option to upgrade...it's okay based on the log someone just posted I don't think I'm missing much. I'll wait until 4.x of Android before I do anything.

This is bull. When i was rooted it said i had an update, downloaded it and of course failed. Now Im home and unrooted and there's no update. Is there a manual way to do the update plz somebody say yes!!

Hey, thanks for the shout out!

Thanks to gtg465x for laying out the details.

I think the performance of the phone is more fluid. Not that it was bad before. So glad the security issue is fixed. It's the little things, I'm glad samsung and att pushed this update through in a timely manner.
