Huawei Ascend Mate headed to Vodafone UK

Huawei 6.1-incher confirmed for Voda UK — no release date or pricing yet

It's been more than six months since we first laid eyes on the Huawei Ascend Mate back at CES 2013. At the Huawei presser in Las Vegas, the Mate turned heads mainly due to its gigantic 6.1-inch screen, at the time one of the largest we'd seen on a smartphone. Half a year later the device is about to make its way to the UK market, and it's been picked by major UK operator Vodafone.

In a blog post today, Vodafone confirmed that it'll be carrying the Ascend Mate, but offered no hints as to when the gigantic handset will be launching, nor how much it'll cost. Given the specs — a 720p display resolution, 1.5GHz custom quad-core CPU and 2GB of RAM — we'd expect the mate to come in somewhere below the current crop of high-end Android phones.

Of course the Mate is no longer alone in the six-plus-inch smartphone space. We've recently spent some time with Sony's Xperia Z Ultra, which packs an even larger 6.4-inch display. That device will be heading to Three UK later in the year.
