Galaxy Nexus

Surprise! There's going to be a GSM version of the next Nexus phone, which also will be coming to Verizon. Go figure, eh? Look, there are still a bunch of questions to be answered surrounding the next Nexus phone -- official name chief among them. But as we've been saying (over and over), even if Verizon has some sort of up-front U.S. exclusivity on the next hottest phone, and it might well be slightly different than the ROW devices, there absolutely will be a GSM version. That's what the rest of the world uses. And that's what just went through the FCC as the GT-i9250. Looking at the radio bands, we've got something that's compatible with AT&T, T-Mobile and Canada, among other nations.

So, yeah. A GSM Nexus. No kidding.

GSM version of the Galaxy Nexus hits the FCC

Interesting , I bit people will be excited for this
This will kill the rumors about it being Verizon exclusive

I gotta say though , the picture above kinda make it look like a Nexus S on steroids

Not really for the sole fact that it would be verizon exclusive for a few weeks or a month like the nexus 1 and nexus s were. Nobody said exclusive forever you people just failed to read properly=)

It should. The 2100mhz is Rx (receive) frequency. FCC only test Tx (transmit) frequency. Also there is mention of AWS, which is Tmo HSPA+ 4G.

i think this is why they postponed it, that way it would be realeas to all carriers. i cant wait to get mine LTE!!! imma make all those iphone 4s drool.

this means two things, one on Thuesday they were not going to reveal the GSM version only the Verizon one, second this FCC news is old and they already have a GSM version aproavd and built....who knows.

If I am not mistaken, I believe you can reveal phones before they pass through the fcc. You only have to get it through FCC when you actually plan to launch very soon. So this means they could have still announced the GSM version and had it present at the CTIA event. Im pretty sure this had nothing to do with the postponing of the event since Google has already announced why it chose to postpone.

STOP CALLING IT Galaxy Nexus !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its an ugly name! its isnt even official yet that it wil hold that name!

just name it nexus PRIME!! its better.and probb the official name(i hope)

Finally something to shut up the idiots who thought a Nexus Phone could be Verizon Only, Seriously you guys, get a clue (and a map of the world)

Do we really have any proof that it will be on Verizon? I hear all this speculation and I cant see any proof. And on top of that I was told by the area(MC/DC/VA) president of Verizon that we would NOT be getting this phone. Now he could have been lying but he told me we would be getting a high end Moto by the end of the year that will have an HD screen and the only Samsung device would be the stratosphere. I want it to be on VZW more than all of you but can someone please show me proof.

I wish there was this much hype for the HTC Holiday. To me that seems like its going to be a better phone.

Awesome... It's a GO! IF Verizon does have an exclusively deal it probably for the last 3 months of the year, meaning everyone else would get some Nexus Prime love in the beginning of the year (2012).

AT&T bands are the first step to happiness. The second step is subsidized pricing on AT&T. I want to use my upgrade on you Mr. Nextus Nexus!

I am pretty confident that we will see it on T-mobile USA. I think Google recognizes although T-mobile is not the most successful of the big 4 it is the one who has supported them and their endeavors from the start of Androids release and still continues to do so. Let us remember that is was on T-mobile that consumers got their first gimps of Android. That it was on T-mobile that the first Nexus phone was released in America and also a year later with he Nexus S. Also We know T-mobile is desperate enough not to F*@K android like the other carriers seem to love. (Bing, Android market lock?) So I think google will continue to work with T-mobile.

Can I say something?

I was right :3

But anyway, a CDMA version hasn't gone through FCC yet and this is compatible with AT&T's LTE Bands so it's possible that it won't be going to Verizon... Not at first anyway.

i hope sprint's is out too, maybe the 9250 is the GSM version, and the other one is CDMA for verizon and sprint.
Let's go Sprint, we need this

I will not buy another phone with Touchwiz.

If Sprint does not get the Nexus Prime, I will (sadly) get an iPhone 4S.

Of Course T-Mobile is getting the new Nexus. Without T-Mobile there would not be Android. T-Mobile was the only carrier who had the balls to let Android fly on their Network. The Nexus One was started on T-Mobile. Google would never forget where they started. I have both carriers Verizon and T-Mobile, will get the new Nexus on both of them.

Actually without verizon android would not be where it is today. Yes tmo carried the first android but what did that do for google? Not much. It wasn't until verizon's droid campaigns that android took off.

No, not really if T-mobile never introduced Android verizon would've never seen androids potential, so indirectly T-mobile helped make DROIDS possible. So i think T-mobile should be credited for starting android not Verizon. Correct me if you think otherwise.

Just saw the FCC print out for the Nexus Prime. It looks like it will support both AT&T & T-Mobile radios in one hand set. Don't want to start a free for all but check out the print out and see for yourselves. Very excited it this is true, about time someone smarten the hell up. Should always be like that, just makes more sense. Hoping it goes all the way thru with those radios intact.

It's ridiculous to think the next Nexus phone will be a Verizon exclusive. Not happening. I'll be using my Nexus Prime or whatever it's called on AT&T.

It's possible that the Verizon variant may be christened as the DROID PRIME or DROID NEXUS or something along the DROID branding pattern. The DROID line is Verizon's precious marketing tool. They may go all out and market the new NEXUS as a DROID. The non-geeks have no idea what the significance of the NEXUS is at all, but they sure do know what a DROID is. Heck, they mistaken all Android devices as DROIDs. So the DROID marketing brand works brilliantly.

I agree 100% with him.
Oh and if you have friends/family trying to decide what phone to get, I manage this list of all mid- to high- end phones for each carrier available now and available soon: http://oceanmedia.net/phones.asp.

The "DROID NEXUS" may eventually make it's way to Sprint, but I doubt it will be there by December 1st when my upgrade time comes, so I am DEFINITELY getting the iPhone 4S. Way to go Google. Verizon gets most of the best Android phones. Oh well. It was nice knowing you Android.

Yeah, don't former Gold Premier customers have to upgrade by December 31st? I was hoping that the Nexus comes before then. I used to be an HTC fan but am tired of the terrible battery life on their phones. If I stay Android, my preference, I want to do so with pure Android. Ive been upgrade eligible since August and thought about the SG2 Touch but chose to pass. With iphone, they always have a higher resale value so im sure i'd be able to sell it next year when either the i5 or the quad core android phones come out.

No droid will ever come to sprint. Droid is verizon's term and if something similar came to sprint it would not be droid branded.

Ya, add me to the list.

I have been so let down by my Epic 4G that I simply will not purchase another non-stock Android phone again.

If Google doesn't care enough to fight carrier exclusivity, I will go with a manufacturer that releases on all carriers. Ya, that's right, Apple.

Exactly. No carrier bloat. OS updates that don't screw the phone and they come out at the same time for every iPhone without being carrier controlled. So it's not 4G. Big deal Only carrier with an iPhone on a TRUE UNLIMITED PLAN.

I don't think i'd even miss 4G. I hardly use it now on my Evo. I've been running MIUI Rom for awhile now so of course 4g isn't an option. The times I do use it on a Sense rom, it kills the battery so fast that it's not even worth it. 4G is insignificant until battery life on these devices improve.
