Droid X Froyo

Yes, we're still waiting on Froyo to drop for the Motorola Droid X. But the good news is that it looks like Verizon's starting to get ready, with a placeholder page up on the Droid Does website that mentions the addition of Flash Player 10.1, auto updates for apps, and 270-degree rotation. It's really not that big a deal, and we've already gotten to play with not just one but two leaked versions of Android 2.2 for the Droid X. We just need the official OTA to hit so we can all go about our business.

As for when Verizon will finally unleash it? "Early September" and "late summer" have been mentioned before. Personally? I'm going with this guy's guess. [Droid Does via Droid-Life and Android Central Forums]

Droid Does page teases but doesn't let you taste Froyo just yet

The page you're showing in the picture is for the Droid, not the Droid X. I received an SMS from Verizon today linking to that page. (I have the original Droid.)

I keep getting messages on my phone telling me that the Android 2.2 is currently available for download. I don't know what I have to do to download it. I have the Motorola Droid A855. So how would I download it?

I just got this email today as well on my Droid. It's kinda funny, I've been running 2.2 for what 2 months now.

He who waits for Verizon shall receive updates last.

What, there are people on the face of the earth who haven't rooted their Android Phones?

I have had Froyo on my Moto Droid for 3 months now, Had adobe and teathering for that time.

All the people complaining about how they've had Froyo on their DROID for months, wake up people. This is about the Droid X. Repeat, X. Not the original which is fully unlocked and capable of hacking/romming to the users delight. The Droid X is locked down tighter than Apple Knox and will not allow custom kernels. No custom kernels = nothing more than snazzy themes. That to me is useless.

I want new kernels with the REAL bread and butter of a new OS update. So yeah go ahead and flaunt how you have 'root' hur dur and how you've had Froyo for 3 months, but for us poor locked up Droid X users this OTA is gonna be big.

I seriously don't really care much about flash or even most of the changes they will make with the new OTA. I just want my wifi to work reliably. This has been a nightmare trying to upload HD videos to youtube without my wifi working properly. No exaggeration, 3 one minute videos last night took from 10pm until about 8am. Fix that, and I'm happy. Anything's better than blackberry.
