HTC One

KitKat update reportedly rolling out on Rogers, TELUS, Bell, Virgin, SaskTel, Wind

HTC One owners in the U.S. might have another week or two to wait for their KitKat update, but it seems there's no such delay for their northern neighbors. MobileSyrup reports that an update weighing a little under 600MB is rolling out now to Canadian HTC Ones on Rogers, TELUS, Bell, Virgin, SaskTel and Wind, bringing devices up to Android 4.4.2 KitKat and HTC Sense 5.5

If you've got an HTC One in Canada, now's the time to head to Settings > About phone > Software update and check for that OTA. Earlier this week HTC America president Jason Mackenzie said the company expected to narrowly miss its self-imposed target of getting KitKat onto phones in the U.S. and Canada within 90 days of the code drop, however it seems Canada has just managed to make that deadline. HTC's updates site still shows the U.S. HTC One update as being in certification with the carriers.

Elsewhere, HTC started pushing out Android 4.4.2 to the HTC One in some European countries a few days ago.

Waiting patiently! This phone still is a beast and Kit Kat will just add on to it !

And they still made it on time! Congrats to Canadians. The US is next!

Can someone tell me why I would want to install Kit Kat when I will lose adobe Flash as a result? I access multiple web sites for work that all utilize adobe Flash. I have read about Kit Kat, and am not seeing any "must have" features. Anyone?

Dolphin Browser my friend. I believe that supports flash on its own.

Jason MacKenzie's twitter said that US carriers will receive the update sometime between TODAY and two weeks from now. It's been reported that Sprint just internally changed their HTC One software version as of yesterday. I'm betting on Sprint being out of the gate first, and soon.

Well they were the first to get 4.3 so I wouldn't doubt it

My money is on Big Red being dead last since there is no Galaxy Gear element hinging on this update. Time to start looking at rooting options...tired of the update hostage situations with this carrier.

You are a smart man! I have so many Verizon friends that complain about them withholding updates.

Yes sir, some good rooms too for that phone.

Got it! Love it. Bigger deal for me is the update to Sense 5.5!

Immediately turned off BlinkFeed and adjusted my quick settings in the pull down menu to include GPS.

HTC does a great job of improving the device with their updates. I don't have to relearn how to use my phone after updates.

Well done HTC!

Ohhh so that's what you can do. I don't even know what you can do with the update. Lol sad.

I'm more excited about the DND mode and being able to exempt certain people. I'm always afraid to turn off everything (sound and vibration) at night in case of an emergency, but I do it anyway so Facebook and email don't keep me up. Once I get the update I'll know that if my family needs to reach me in the middle of the night they'll be able to.

Just in time for carriers that aren't loaded with bloat

Heck yeah HTC! I hope HTC never goes belly up. I still remember my old HTC Inspire 4g, I loved that phone. I can't wait to see what is coming up this year.

HTC will fall in accordance to prophecy. For it was told that a Korean corporation will rise from beneath the American dust that is dull. And with that dust a new beginning will fill the tracks on a road that has long been abandoned from the feet of the giants once known to man as HTC. The jezebits, the Mayans, and the wookies have all foretold of this situation of a slow and dreadful death of that which is called HTC.

When did you get the Note 3, brother?

About a month ago. I got the n9005 international version. Its running KitKat right now. To be honest, the only difference I can see between 4.3 & 4.4.2 is the white icons and the lock screen. But man, this phone is fast.

Why is Samsung allowing HTC to be so much faster with the 4.4.2 update??? C'mon Samsung! Wake up!!!

What do you want Sammy to do..go over to the HTC update facility and drop a grenade! Why would Sammy need to hurry an update, they already run the damn show! They know you won't leave them just because HTC gives quicker updates...so y'all just wait and continue to play with stuff that HTC owners wish they had like...eye scroll media! YEAH RIGHT! ! ! NOT!

Because Samsung would rather have you buy a new flagship than wait for an update. Its all apart of their strategy.

NoNexus says:

That's why they always wait until the new phone comes out before upgrading any others... Oh wait they don't

Well at least they are like other carriers and give up after a year on upd--- oh wait they don't.

Well crap, we'll just make stuff up to make them look bad then

No, that sounds like the carriers' strategy, lol.

I would rather have it done right than fast. I love my phone as it is.

jimbo says:

In addition to selling the next iteration before updating,

Samsung's Bloatwiz and carrier specifics are more problematic than is the situation for HTC. Moreover, HTC must, in their own self interest, be more responsive because their customers are a more exclusive, sophisticated, and discerning global market segment.

Samsung currently has a lock on sheeple as does Apple.

that is Nexus specific if I remember right. It is part of their skin...not AOSP

Look and feel of home screen is same. But a couple noticeable differences are battery icon changed, multi task screen is now different... And in the update log it said bluetooth has more profile iptions to manage multiple devices... Besides this, i havent played much. Wait was worth it however, i can say. Loving it so far.

Edit : i now see printing option in settings añd system ypdate now see two more options.

When will the Kitkat update be ready for TMobile's flagship HTC One?

Joojoobomb says:

I just realized a bug. I've restarted my phone and it didn't fix it... wondering if anyone else can try.

I can't seem to be able to send messages then the phone's in landscape orientation using the default text messaging app. I can type the message, and select "Done" once I'm done typing, but then only the file attachment button is available, not the "send" button. I have to turn the phone back the other way for the button to show up that enables me to send the message.

This is stupid.

There will always be bugs, and to be honest,I never liked texting in landscape because there is always an extra step, you have to hit done then send. Now you have to hit done....rotate.....send.. why not just use portrait? I guess you like he larger layout?

Posted via Android Central App

rampage1979 says:

After typing in landscape push on the capacitive back button you should see the send option. It's the same on my G2 I'm wondering if it's the same on other devices?
