Everyone's trying to save money these days, and to be perfect honest it can be a little confusing when it comes to smartphone plans. There are data buckets. Shared data. Rollover data. Overage fees. Prepaid plans. Postpaid plans. And more devices from which to choose than at any other point in human history.

In the midst of all that is Republic Wireless. The company carries just a few phones, and only a few plans — all of which are based on the idea that you may very well be paying for data you'll never use under other plans. Wifi, on the other hand, is inexpensive. And that's where things get interesting with Republic. A Wifi-only phone plan — that includes unlimited voice, text and data — runs just $5 a month. $10 a month gets you voice and texting over cellular data. $25 gets you 3G data, and $40 a month adds in 4G LTE data.

It's a rather interesting proposition.

As for the devices, Republic uses the 2014 Moto X as well as the 2013 Moto X, and the Moto G and Moto E as well.
