Droid 2 launch date sneak peek

Look close at the bottom of the blurry shot from Verizon's system above, and you'll see the entry for the (what everybody and their mother assumes to be) Aug. 12 is marked for "Commercial launch of Droid 2".  We'll pause a moment and let you catch your breath.  Back with us?  Good.  It looks like all the speculations and rumors may be true this time, and we all will be able to get our grubby paws on a shiny Droid 2 in 9 short days.

To add to the Droid 2 fever, we also have some nice pics from a member at Howard Forums showing the Droid 2 beside its predecessor, the OG Droid, and a close up of the keyboard in all it's extended glory.  Check them out after the break, then we can all wait impatiently and figure out how we can pass the next week or so in the Droid 2 forums.  [Howard Forums via Intomobile, and thanks to The Geek at donthatethegeek.com for the release info!]

Hopefully that means dx gets froyo then

They said the DX would get FroYo before the summer's end when they launched the thing. It's coming. Hold your horses.

Looks even cheaper than the original droid!

When was this taken?
The same day AT&T releases there latest flagship blackberry, Verizon releases the update to there flagship android device.

I'd say the X is Verizon's flagship device now.

They look the same size. I wonder if the D2's keyboard could be put in the D1. The only thing I really covet is the keyboard and extended RAM

it is unbelievable that vzw has not actually announced this yet, especially with all of the leaks that have trickled out. i know it says on that sheet as well that they plan on an announcement, and one would assume that will happen tomorrow or Wednesday, but cmon! just say it!

likwidsoul says:

That is a pretty sweet looking keyboard. Only thing I would ever use it for is a terminal emulator or gaming. Does it have a locked bootloader?

Nothing hands-on confirmed but the general consensus was that the D2 would be like the X and have the locked bootloader.

I bet Verizon doesn't even announce it til a day or two before launch. They want to keep hype on the X as much as possible (because it's their flagship phone). I would expect them to replace the D1 with this phone and just hope the consistent sales of that phone make this one sail smoothly as well.

Sounds like bad business practice, but if they hype this phone up alot, people will get pissed at verizon for all the phones getting thrown at them and will be confused.

Basically, people still go into stores to buy Droids because they have little idea what's out there. For people who want a keyboard, they will be sold this phone now.

Uhh, WHAT THE H3LL??!!
What the hell happened to Samsung Fascinate? I bet the Samsungs are manufactured and ready to go, but they're locked up in a warehouse somewhere until VZW sells out of all their motorola phones.
This is Bullsh*t. I want the Samsung Fas already.

VZW - GET OFF YOUR @SS AND RELEASE IT ALREADY!!
