It has been available through BlackBerry Beta Zone for some users from a few weeks now and it now ready for everyone. The most notable new feature is Timed Messages which allows users to send a 'secret' message to a contact for a pre-set duration of time. You will also be able to retract any accidentally sent messages. We've all been there, so that may be a handy addition.

Andy Rubin, former head of Android, is leaving Google

Andy Rubin

Andy Rubin, a co-founder of Android and long time employee of Google, is leaving the company. In Android circles Rubin is best known for his time leading the Android division at Google after his company was acquired in 2005, only to move after many years to head up robotics efforts at the company instead. Sundar Pichai has led Google's Android efforts since Rubin made the move in 2013.

Since moving to lead the robotics "moonshot" at Google Rubin oversaw the acquisition of multiple robotics companies, including Boston Dynamics, to strengthen its efforts in the field.

Rubin is leaving Google to start his own company focused on technology hardware (and you can bet robots are somehow involved), though Google is still staying committed to robotics after he leaves. James Kuffner, who works in Google's robotics group, will take over Rubin's position at the top.

Hands-on with the brand new Microsoft Band

Microsoft is in the wearable game and supporting Android. Here's a first look

Last night – in a somewhat bungled outing, no less – Microsoft officially joined the wearable market with the Microsoft Band. More a fitness band with benefits than a smartwatch, the Band is perhaps best compared with the Samsung Gear Fit that launched earlier this year. The big news for us is, is Android support. Through the Microsoft Health app for Android – also for iOS, Mac and Windows – you can pair your Band with your favorite smartphone.

We haven't seen it yet, but our buddy, Daniel Rubino, over at Windows Central sure has, and he's unboxed it and given it a thorough hands-on.
