Upstart Wi-Fi-centric carrier Republic Wireless is updating their last-generation Moto X and Moto G smartphones to Android 4.4.4 KitKat, as well as pushing a new security update for the even-more-budget-conscious Moto E. The update for the Moto G is pushing out now, while the Moto X update will roll out in February.
The updates bring the standard bits of Android 4.4.4, which include a redesigned phone app and immersive full screen mode for apps. Both the Moto G and Moto X on Republic are currently on Android 4.4.2. The Moto E? That one's already on 4.4.4.
Now, we know what you're thinking: whither Lollipop? As it would turn out, Republic is working with Motorola on an update for the latest version of Android:
We are currently working with Motorola to plan out the releases for both flavors of X (1st and 2nd Gen.), the G and the E. More to come on this, but we are already on that path.
So, in the meantime, there's a 4.4.4 update for Moto G owners, and one coming in short order for Moto X users.
