Netflix ported to the Droid(s)

I know the Netflix app has been out for all of a few hours, but it looks like that's all it took for some of the hard-working developers at XDA to port it over to the Droid X, Droid 2, and OG Droid. Keep in mind all these phones are running either a leaked Gingerbread build or a custom ROM running Gingerbread, but it's still great to know that Netflix is available to more of the masses.

We were told this in regards to the Droid X:

Note for DX: I'm running the first GB leak, rooted, build 4.5.573 and it's working flawlessly. Some people on .588 are reporting it doesn't work, those on .591 and .595 seem to be having success.

If you're willing to take the plunge, the download is at the source link. Let us know how it works for you and thank a dev, while you're at it! Thanks, blakjakdavy!

Netflix app ported to Droid X, Droid 2, and OG Droid

Once again, the dev community comes through where the manufacturers/companies have failed. Man these guys are good!

I, for one, am so glad I'm on Team Android.

Doesn't seem to work for me. Droid X GB build 591: Liberty GB v0.5 rom.
Loads up fine, but when try to watch movie, just sits on black screen and doesn't load anything.

I am running a DX with .588. The app installed and otherwise works, but will not play video. Just shows a black screen in the video player.

People are reporting in forums that if you install the Netflix APK on an unsupported device, it either won't let you login or it gives a black screen when trying to stream. Seems Netflix is checking what device one is using before continuing.

Im pretty sure they could have released the app for any phone if they wanted to, however, it wasn't done due to performance and security reasons. I tried the app on my OG Droid and it ran bad until it finally crashed and I had to pull my battery.

I kinda doubt that it really has much to do with performance and security reasons. I'll bet you we're waiting on money to change hands in the right way before more phones will be supported.

No joy on my Droid X, running Apex 1.4.0. Saw there's a beta version of Apex in the forums, which may do the trick, but more complex install process. Was pissed the other night when my wife was streaming The IT Crowd to her iPhone and I had to sit and wonder when I could do that too. Decisions, decisions....

No go for me...DX Liberty Gingerbread v0.5 (0.591). It goes so far as to say "Buffering...", but constantly stays paused (with no video). I can even move the slider to a different spot, but continuous pause. BUMMER!

I think netflix is fighting back... i installed the original netflix apk months ago and received the cannot connect error as we all did because they hadnt opened the servers for andriod... then i installed the new netflix apk that was released today and got the black screen on my DX GB... now about 1 hour later im getting the cannot connect error again as if it has once again been cut off by netflix hmmmm?

I tried it earlier and it worked. Then after reading all the comments I went back. Its 10+ minutes in to a movie and running perfect on wifi. Droid 2 GB

Tried the apk from my Incredibe on my Xoom. No dice. Doubt I'd have any more luck with this one. :-(

Oh well. At least I have it on the Dinc. Works great on Wi-Fi and 3G.

I tried running the APK on my Droid 2 Global and everything appears to be in order EXCEPT streaming. I get a message that says, "Netflix is not supported on this device. Please check the Netflix website for a list of supported devices."

Upon further inspection (as suggested by the App) there are only 5 Android phones that officially are able to use Netflix.

Those phones are the following:
1. HTC Incredible with Android 2.2
2. HTC Nexus One with Android 2.2, 2.3
3. HTC Evo 4G with Android 2.2
4. HTC G2 with Android 2.2
5. Samsung Nexus S with Android 2.3

Seems this correct as I get the same "unsupported device" notice on my D2 running Liberty ROM. Damn...I so wish this wasnt the case. I was hoping this was actually going to FINALLY be a REALITY!!

Yup no go DX on liberty. 05. Those that say it does work with your DX post screen shots or quit telling stories.

Droid X Stock Froyo. Installs, runs, opens but when you select to watch a movie it tells me that it does not support my device.

It's working great on my GB X. It's AWESOME to FINALLY have it!

Android just keeps getting better and better.

D2 running on the leaked gingerbread from that was prerooted and the app installed just fine. Works fine streaming over wifi and 3g. I wonder how long till it stops working. Netflix shows my phone as a registered device as a Motodroid2 so Im sure they are well aware of it.

OK here's the deal with Droid X:

Stock 573: Works.
Stock 591: Works.
Stock 588: Doesn't work.
Stock 595: Works.

Other custom ROMs built off buggy leaks: generally no, especially Liberty. Sorry but not sorry that's what you get for a hacked together OS.

For the haters and doubters, yes it does really work.

I have this running flawlessly on my Nook Color with CM7 stable 7.0.3. Let's hear it for the xda devs. First tablet running Netflix!

Ok so I took my DX off of liberty back to the old GB version. 573 rooted. It was still on my card and figured what the he'll. Well netflix is now streaming!

how do i know what my rom build is im running apex 1.4 with a revolution theme on my droid x i really like the rom but i need netflix =/

I'm on Droid 2 running the first GB leak (rooted with gingerbreak) and installed the original apk from the market (not the "ported" version) and it runs flawless with great quality.

Im on a Droid X and it says after you go through all the BS bout logging on to there crap website ..it wont let me down load it to even save it i have also heard of people say that you cant use it on a DX then i went to there site and it doesnt even list the Droid x as an acceptable phone ...so i guess ill just have wait for it in the market ...

Works perfectly on my DX running rooted GB build 4.5.573.

XDA is NOT a crap website. Mad props to those bringing us the goodies!

On the Droid X .595 works excellent. Thanks to those who worked on this. Now I off to watch Stargate SG1 with my DX.

It didn't work on the outdated .4 liberty gb nigthlie for the droid2 but once I tried it on Apex Gb 2.0 beta it runs flawlessly. Big ups to xda for porting this over and Fabulous for a great rom. Netflix + Apex = Win.

Uh.....this worked for a bit on my GB powered Hero. Need to try it where I actually have real 3g or Wi-Fi. Loaded and started playing Star Trek, then it froze.
