Nexus S 4G ICS port

As we explained yesterday, now that the Ice Cream Sandwich SDK has been released, we're about to see a deluge of SDK-based ROM ports. We're not going to cover them all here, but will will cover the first to come out of the Android Central Forums. Beezy's been hard at work, and you'll soon be able to enjoy the fruits of his SDK labor on the Nexus S 4G. Things are very much still a work in progress, but you'll soon be able to be the first on your block to say you have some form of ICS on your phone.

D4RkNIKON says:

I want this on my CM7 touchpad NAO!

Wicell says:

Only problem is CM9 will be ICS based, not CM7 xD

drewfus0929 says:

He was saying he wanted it on his touchpad that is currently running CM7

Fozee says:

Was that a typo, or is ICS really far off for CM? Did you mean CM8?

CBPilu says:

CM8 would have been a honeycomb project but since it wasnt open sourced CM9 = ICS. From my understanding at least

ro1224 says:

That what I heard and read yesterday. ICS = CM9. Cyanogen is waiting for the ICS Source Code.

crxssi says:

And it is quite probably that Google will release Honeycomb source code at the same time or after ICS. They have nothing to lose by releasing it now.

buk8tee says:

Andy in Indy says:

It's just not a party without Neopolitan Ice Cream!

Keep em coming...

What is the difference between the SDK version of Android and the AOSP (open source) version of Android (which I believe CM7 uses)?

voiceonly says:

I'm guessing money that you have to pay Google to officially use their version?

I'm probably wrong, usually am.

You do not have to pay Google for anything Android-related.

The difference is AOSP is source-based, the SDK build is pure binary.

rionman says:

GOOGLE WILL TAKE OVER THE WORLD WITHOUT ASKING US FOR A DIME ONLY TO TRY A PIECE OF THERE CUPCAKE. THEN YOUR HOOKED ON ANDROID BEEN WITH THEM THROUGH C D E F G AND NOW GETTING READY TO TRY THE I FIRMWARE NEVER CHECKED OUT HONEYCOMB SENSE IT WAS INTENDED FOR TAB'S

ScottJ says:

Off your meds?

Whyzor says:

SDK version uses already compiled binaries, basically mixing & matching already-built components. AOSP uses the source code (not yet released by Google), it's like using the original blueprints, which should be better & more robust. CyanogenMods use source code only.

Ostrich69 says:

high speed, low drag. That was fast! Cannot wait!

aleis says:

RaiderWill says:

I have to say.. This new Nexus running ICS is almost as fast as my Custom Droid Charge... Not Bad..

DWR_31 says:

Having a hard time deciding on a Nexus S 4G or a Galaxy Nexus.

What do you guys think?

(Just say both are running ICS.)

rionman says:
