Samsung’s upcoming flagship tablets are shaping up to be a fairly conservative upgrade, with the Galaxy Tab S12 Plus and Tab S12 Ultra rumored to be bringing a new MediaTek chip and minor changes to the battery.
The Korean tech giant is not expected to release a standard Galaxy Tab S12, with the company instead focusing on the Plus and Ultra models. The Tab S12 Plus is said to feature a 12.6-inch 120Hz Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a resolution of 2,800 x 1,752, while the Ultra could stick to its giant 14.6-inch 120Hz panel with a resolution of 2,960 x 1,848, according to WinFuture.
Both phones are said to be powered by MediaTek’s 3nm Dimensity 9500 and come with 12GB of RAM as standard under the hood. The Ultra could pack up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, and both tablets are expected to provide microSD expansion. Samsung seems to be sticking with its aluminum construction, IP68 protection, and bundled S Pen, too.
The Plus may pack a 10,600mAh battery, while the Ultra is said to retain its 11,600mAh cell. The outlet reports that both can charge at 45W. The Plus is also said to tip the scales at 555 grams, making it lighter than Samsung's previous Plus tablet, even with the larger battery.
Another potentially bigger change is happening under the hood: the Dimensity 9500 has already shown up in a Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra Geekbench listing, with reported scores significantly higher than the previous Tab S11 Ultra. That points to performance—rather than a visual redesign—as Samsung’s biggest practical upgrade.
The more important question is price. Previous leaks priced Tab S12 Plus at $1,200 for 256GB and Ultra at $1,400 for 256GB. The European pricing is said to be €1,299 and €1,539, respectively.
Those numbers are still not official, but earlier leaks already pointed to a big bump in price over the Tab S11 generation, especially for the Ultra.
The two tablets are tipped to launch on October 7, and just how much that familiar hardware package actually costs will be determined by Samsung’s final pricing.
