HTC releases source code for Sprint Hero; ROM cookers rejoice

Phil Nickinson News Friday, 22 January 2010

Sprint ROM cookers are foaming at the mouth this morning as HTC has released the source code for the Sprint Hero. That means better ROMs, built from the same zeros and ones as HTC. It likely won't contain every line of code you'll find in an official Hero ROM, as close-sourced code doesn't have to be released. But it's already been compiled, and ROMs are cooking as we speak. Hey HTC Hero users, maybe you won't be left in the dust after all. A HTC Hero has been caught in the wild running Android 2.1--yeah, you read that right, not Android 1.6, not Android 2.0--but Android 2.1!

Android 2.1 is expected to be a minor update to the major update which was Android 2.0 'Eclair'. Android 2.0 is currently only available on the Motorola DROID--their are still devices stuck on either Android 1.5 or 1.6. It definitely makes more sense for HTC...

Droid Eris Gets Unboxed, Better than Sprint HTC Hero ?

Casey Chan News Thursday, 05 November 2009

The DROID Eris, Verizon's version of the HTC Hero, has been unboxed and looks generally ready to go for the November 6th launch. Why Verizon doesn't want to officially announce this device is beyond us, because from the looks of it, they've got themselves a winner here.

Sprint HTC Hero: Hardware Review

Casey Chan Featured Thursday, 15 October 2009

There’s no question that the HTC Hero has been the most anticipated Android device in Android’s short lifetime. Though the T-Mobile G1 and myTouch 3G are both wonderful devices that will still be relevant years from today, the G1 had a (undeserved) “beta” rep it couldn’t shake and the myTouch 3G had such a delayed release in the US, it couldn’t maintain the initial hype (deserved).

Sprint HTC Hero $329.99 Off-Contract

Casey Chan News Tuesday, 06 October 2009

According to Leakdroid, the Sprint HTC Hero will be available off-contract for $329.99. So if you're lucky enough to be a Sprint subscriber with a great monthly plan, we...
