I really wish the powers that be, whomever they are, would allow universal backup of *app* data without requiring root. The default backup in stock Android is inconsistent, and if you don't have stock or root you're out of luck. As it is, the "data backup" offered by so many companies is more or less useless if you use Google contacts and upload pics/vid to the web yourself (though I suppose if you store stuff exclusively on your phone I could see the use).

Ummm.... is this the same as MacaFee Wavesecure in the Market? . . . And how is this VS Lookout Mobile? If anyone has tried both? thanks.

I currently have Lookout (free version) installed, but I had McAfee WaveSecure (paid) when they offered us a free 1-year "upgrade" to Mobile Security several months ago. I bit, but, after a couple of weeks, couldn't get it to verify my phone number. It is not the same as WaveSecure. Lookout and McAfee do pretty much the same things. McAfee Mobile Security worked pretty good before it wouldn't let me use it. So I would suggest to try both and see which one you let best. Personally, after all the frustration I went through with McAfee, I'm very sour on them.

Hi Ntchwaidumela,
Are you still having problems activating McAfee Mobile Security? Which version of Android OS are you using on the device?

Thanks,
cw

What ever happened to Sprint's partnership with Lookout Mobile? Seems like they announce stuff and never happens, then announce more partnerships as if nothing happened.

Lookout Mobile Security is still listed in Sprint Zone as the "#1 Security App for Android." If that's true, why would we need McAfee Mobile Security? And what about Sprint Total Equipment Protection? I'm soooo confused...

By the way, Lookout Mobile Security and McAfee Mobile Security cannot co-exist. So, if you want to use/try McAfee, you must first uninstall Lookout.

Personally I would not trust either my computer OR my phone to McAfee, even if the subscription was free with my service. I've seen it skip too many threats over the years that were picked up by all the "other leaders" in the industry.

icebike says:

Plus one.

In addition it slows down computers remarkably.

If it did the same for my phone it would be gone instantly.

I bet this thing has never even once detected walware in the wild.

KnoxBNYC#AC says:

I installed it, but can't get past the "Verifying Number" screen. I receive the sms message it sends, but McAffee never seems to recognize that it has been received!! Oh well.

I had the same problem (read post below) and ended up uninstalling all things McAfee.

Which version of Android OS are you on?

I'll stick with lookout.

I had so many problems with this app when it was offered as a free 1-year subscription for those of us with paid subscriptions to McAfee WaveSecure. When I installed Mobile Security, it failed to verify my phone number, even after their customer service sent me a new download. After screwing around with it for several hours, I was only left with frustration...and no workable app. So I uninstalled both apps, went with the free version of Lookout, and requested a prorated refund of my $19.90 from McAfee (which never happened). I would be very skeptical if I was considering McAfee Mobile Security.

Alright, really stupid question - where is the Sprint tab in the new Market? I can't find it. I should note (if it matters) that I'm on a Nexus S 4G.

I don't want to install the McAfee stuff, but I'd like to see what's in that tab...
