We've said it before. We've seen it already. But we'll say it once again: it's highly unlikely that Verizon is going to sell the Nexus One in stores. So though DigiTimes is saying that HTC is shipping Nexus Ones to Verizon, we're just not buying it. Why would Verizon be stocking inventory of a phone they'll never sell in their own retail stores? Like the T-Mobile Nexus One, the Verizon Nexus One is going to be sold exclusively through google.com/phone. And whether it's beneficial or not for Google to be committed to that strategy, that's on them.

HTC shipping Nexus One to Verizon? Huh?

I wish T Mobile had done the same. I probably wouldn't have bought Nexus One if they had demos at the store.

I was told by a verizon employee a few weeks ago that verizon would never sell a phone unless they could have it in store. he said that big red wants too much control over what they sell. So who knows? I hope they do sell it in store or at least have it there to look at. Waiting patiently to use my early upgrade!!!

I wonder if DigiTimes is confusing the HTC Incredible. (

For the record, I don't understand why Verizon would offer both the Nexus One and Incredible. Unless, there was some concession by Google with Verizon so the Nexus One could be sold online only.

New Every 2 Years possibly? Unless Google will have that option for VZW customers on their website when you go to finalize your purchase

Perhaps these are being shipped to Verizon for online orders. Didn't T-Mobile sell the Nexus One on their website? I doubt they're simply drop shipping the phone from HTC/Google.

Has anyone considered that VZW is stocking a set amount for their internal employees? No one has mentioned thus far how employees get a hold of the device at their employee rate let alone if it can align with our current portal. If this is true my money is that this is simply for internal employees and employees.

They still don't know anything in the stores although many have repeated the phone won't be offered for sale in the store. I'm hoping they are taking a new approach from T-mobile by having demo units in the stores and want their employees to be trained and aware even if the phone is only sold online through Google. I've been "testing" the reps each time with questions and generally they seem a LOT more educated on smartphones, in general, than they used to be.

I think they'll at least have in-store demo's if they want any booming sales figures. Its frustrating purchasing a smartphone without even demo'ing it & just going off of hearsay.

I returned my Nexus One, went thru 2 defective phones. Its horrible dealing with Google and HTC, very poorly impelimented support and customer service. I would have thought Google had it together more then they do!!
Not a way to sell a $ 500+ device, with no print, or tv advertising...or true support for the customer or carriers, no wonder its considered a total failure by Goldman Sachs.

I don't think it's been that bad. Ordered and had it within 36 hours.

It had the dust under screen issue so HTC did an advance replace that I had less than 36 hours later, and 10 days to send back the original.

All in all, a pretty painless process. And it doesn't constantly drop calls like my iPhone 3G on AT&T did.

I bet they are getting demos so you can look at the phone. Verizon also set up to ship items to end users, Verizon deals in both tangle items like phones, and intangibles like phone and data service. Google has always been in the intangible side of things, Having to handle the shipping directly makes no sense, they would have to set that whole thing up unless they outsourced the whole thing. Make zero economic sense, so to have Verizon do the shipping make the most economic sense.

Why can't Verizon sell the Nexus One is the stores and still have Google sell it online. Why have to order it online and have it shipped from Google. I walk in to Verizon and I want a Nexus One why not allow them to have them in the stores. I can see this happening, Google allows recovers from their mistakes and I believe they learned their lesson. They will not change their model, but maybe flex it to work better. Customers can go to their local Verizon store and buy and receive a Nexus One all at once, or they can buy on unlocked from Google.com/phone. A win/win situation.

Even if Verizon stores don't sell the N1, Google could still make use of Verizon's warehousing and distribution network. Verizon has experience selling phones online-only (HTC Imagio comes to mind) so the model isn't foreign to them.

Article clearly states that everyone here @AC believes this report is in error.

"We've said it before. We've seen it already. But we'll say it once again: it's highly unlikely that Verizon is going to sell the Nexus One in stores. So though DigiTimes is saying that HTC is shipping Nexus Ones to Verizon, we're just not buying it. "

That's the first line of the article.

READ THE ARTICLE, PLEASE

I read the article well. And I have read many articles posted by Android Central as well. If you understand what Google is doing then articles such as this have absolutely no reason to exist. Also please take note that the very line you quoted states there is a chance that it could be sold in stores. Google selling a phone in stores is as likely as the next iPhone running Android OS.

I would like to state that mocking me is completely counterproductive.

I'm a bit new to this online public commentary thing, but I have to say if you're prepared to make absolute statements in a highly public forum and criticize publishers who hedge even slightly, you should be prepared to be mocked. Don't go online making black & white statements and criticizing those with a smidgen of caution and expect otherwise. If you can't take it you don't belong in such a public forum.

And then read this, this, this, this, this and this.

And that's just the stuff I feel wasting time on to dig up. So, yeah, we've followed the Nexus One for a little while. And it's really odd, because you commented on two articles in which WE BROKE THE NEWS that the Nexus One would definitely NOT be sold in Verizon stores. :P

At no point was it ever a possibility. It isn't "breaking news" when it isn't news. It is comparable to "breaking news" that Apple will not be selling iPhones with AT&T contracts in Verizon stores. It just isn't the plan. I want people to know Google's plan with google.com/phone because it is great and I don't like how little actually know. The want a place where you can go to buy a phone for its quality, not it's carrier. So every phone they have will be open for every network, but you will only have to go to one place, not each individual carrier. Also they plan for each phone to be different and powerful enough that you don't get confused as to which is for you. Selling a phone in stores would defeat their entire venture into selling phones. Which isn't a possibility. They are not concerned with how well the Nexus One is selling, Google is only in their infancy with google.com/phone.

I'm quite calm, only looking for people to have a better understanding. Also it isn't what I think, it is what Erick Tseng, Senior Product Manager of Android, and everyone at Google has decided. Please know that what I want is a better understanding. I would rather individuals speculate on more relevant things, not ones that are of, by definition, ignorance. I went through the links that Phil Nickinson posted and I found errors on most, this doesn't mean Android Central is not a great source for new information, it just means they have room to refine their information. I obviously like and support Android Central if I am spending time on it. Correct information is a very important thing, also something Google holds to be immensely important.

You weren't calm before. Seriously, here's a box of tissue paper... now go in your room, shut the door, and get out those tears over what they decide to post to their website.

An intellectual/informed response would have been better; or even a clever insult. I simply love Android and the ideas behind it. Google's novel way of delivering phones to individuals is just the next installment of Android and I want people to understand it just as they understand the OS.

Your desire to impart perfect knowledge to all is admirable, but beyond idealistic. People are here to learn, and while it may seem like a chasm to you there's actually but a fine line between trying to learn the nuances that separate truth from falsehood and having command of the absolute truth. I'm glad that at least one commentator here -- you -- has the absolute truth, but the rest of us are just going to enjoy the quest.

Google is missing the boat. Anyone in their right mind is not going to buy a $500.00 phone that they can't even put their hands on. That is probably the biggest reason for the slow N1 sales so far.

Is anyone else missing the point that HTC would have to have made two separate Nexus Ones for this to even happen? Verizon is still a CDMA service, on which you can't run a GSM phone which the N1 is.. So how would Google, HTC, or Verizon run a phone on an incompatible network.. Oh I know Verizon made a GSM network just for N1...riiiiiight. Use your noodle people. NexusOne + US Verizon = NO. Now were this the N2 or some variant thereof(Like the Milestone/Droid) then sure but not the Vanilla N1.

Hi - do you know anything? Go to www.google.com/phone and read a little about the phone before you make stupid comments like this. HTC *IS* making a separate Nexus One for Verizon to be compatible with their CDMA network, and it's already passed through the FCC.

Like, duh.

If you learn how to read then you'll notice that I said that it would have to be a CDMA VARIANT of the N1. The N1 is GSM. I don't care if you think it's the same phone regardless of band.. it's NOT. Is the Milestone the same as Droid?? All reports thus far say yes except for the bootloader being locked.. ooops, not the same phone. So my point still holds true.

My guess in all this is a huge loss in translation. The article at Digitimes comes from a Chinese newspaper that said HTC was shipping N1 to Verizon and later next month would be shipping to Vodafone. It's most likely that HTC is shipping to Google for shipment to Verizon customers. The article may have been translated poorly.

At no point should Verizon have any contact with the phone, either to show in-store or to ship out. If Verizon has a sample available, then I should be able to buy from their store. If Verizon is in charge of mailing the phone, I should be able to buy from their website.

If the N1 were to become available on Verizon's website, we would have seen a "coming soon page" at verizonwireless.com/nexusone by now. That hasn't happened, so it's not likely it will.

For all of this back and forth and never ending conjecture - isn't the bottom line that those of us that choose to stay with Verizon just want the phones to hurry up and be available? At this point give me anything - give me N1 give me the Incredible - just give me an option.

And since we still are waiting - we don't have anything better to do than sit here and discuss the rumors and possibilities.

I'd love it if I could go play with a demo phone at the store before I ordered online but I am not expecting to be able to do so.

In the meantime I get sucked in like everyone else to find new ways to hash and re hash the same topics over and over. But it comes down to we are still just waiting.

But I think Android Central does a great job in facilitating said conversations! Keep it civil and usually interesting and intelligent. I appreciate the site and the community you have built here.

I'm a "newbie" to smartphones--don't yet have a smartphone, and have read with interest the entire conversation thus far. I need advice from you who are knowledgeable. My company is changing our email (Microsoft Outlook compatible) to Google for businesses. I need to sync my calendar, tasks, email, contacts, etc. between my work computer and smartphone. In your opinion(s), what smartphone should I be considering? (Please my elementary-level inquiry; I don't know where else to go for straight answers without someone trying to sell my their product.)

Android all the way. I went from all-Exchange to gmail, and you just can't beat Android's integration. As for what hardware you want? Gotta ask yourself whether you need a physical keyboard.

I think I'd prefer the physical keyboard; thus far, I've had a PDA and used a stylus to "write" on the surface which worked okay/so-so. I also understand that I'll need to change carriers from Ma Bell to either AT&T or Verizon. Your thoughts?

So the real question I have is if the verizon variant is going to be sold through the Google site, which they clearly are, then will we still be able to use our verizon new every two upgrade to get the phone at a discount? - Even if you don't know, please say yes so that I can get the warm fuzzy feeling :-)
