HTC One KitKat

308MB update brings HTC's 2013 flagship up to the latest version of Android

HTC said it'd deliver Android 4.4 KitKat to European HTC Ones by the end of January, and it seems the manufacturer's about to make good on its promise. An update to software version 4.19.401.8, weighing in at 308.24 megabytes, has started hitting HTC One handsets in parts of Europe — including unlocked devices from the Nordic region, typically among the first with new software updates. If past rollouts are any indication, more regions should follow in the days and weeks ahead, so hold tight if you're not seeing the OTA on your phone just yet,

In addition to Android 4.4.2, (and unspecified security enhancements) the update adds cloud printing service and Bluetooth profiles — both parts of KitKat we've seen on other handsets — while killing support for Adobe Flash in the stock HTC web browser. The latter has been a long time coming — Flash on Android hasn't been officially supported since mid-2012.

Besides that it's business as usual on HTC Sense 5.5, with one minor cosmetic change. The battery icon is now white-on-white, like stock KitKat, rather than colored as it was on Jelly Bean. (We've got pics after the break.)

Meanwhile the KitKat update for U.S. carrier-branded HTC Ones recently entered certification, a sure sign that it's on its way too.

On the contrary, Note 3 and S4 started receiving 4.4.2 update about 2 weeks ago.

Note 2 and S3 to get Kitkat in March prior to the S5 release.

Well that's what the rumours say. Assuming that the S3 does get the update, my bets are placed on a mid-April or early May rollout. Also this time, since there's no incentive (galaxy gear support) in it for samsung and the carriers, we might even be looking at a June rollout. But that being said, fingers are crossed

Around November last year, I said the Note 3 & S4 will get kitkat mid January but people here said it's just mere 'speculation'. My Note 3 and friend's S4 are both running kitkat as we speak.

The Note 2 & S3 are bound to receive Kitkat in March prior to the S5's release because it's been touted to ship in with kitkat out of the box and a new TW UI.

I'm talking about USA note 3 users.

NoNexus says:

This isn't for USA HTC One users, they are both on the same schedule. I cannot speak for the others, but Sprint should be just about done now. They have slowed down the builds so it should be close...

DJ_IMC says:

Okay...I think I'll be downgrading...I should have seen earlier that they are killing flash player support.

rockyseenu says:

I dont think that's a good idea. Update will bring more system stability and performance and for flash you can always use 3rd party browser like Dolphin.

verpeiler089 says:

Why use flash anyway? Just ignore it, or better, officially complain about the use of it.

Oops , sorry mine also unlocked. Aside from the battery indicator now being white (not green) stuggling to see what the differences are. I'm sure someone will set me straight but looking good so far.

Well sense is still 5.5 so visually there won't be much changes.

Does anyone know with this update if you can now have the transparent status bar when using a 3rd party launcher? Love the transparent look but not willing to use Sense launcher.

I would think so. I have it now without the update - running the Everything Home launcher.

Question for those of you who've updated: Have you seen any bugs yet, or is it smooth sailing so far?

Keep getting download unsuccesful after getting notified for the new update. Then it tells me to "manually update" from the settings but with equally bad results, and so tje vicious cycle keeps on and on.
Attempting to download from Belgium with an unlocked version.

MazTrix says:

I'm having the exact same problem - my HTC One tells me there's the new update available but can't download just as you describe?? I'm from Denmark, with an unlocked version too? Someone with a solution?

Jacob9211 says:

I have heard that the 4.2.2 update started rolling out in Spain, my phone is from Spain and it is unlocked...I'm living in the middle east but I didn't get The update yet!!
Can anyone tell me why ???!

Thanks.

Probably cause you're not connected to a spanish network and the ota update hasn't reached the middle-east yet.

Jacob9211 says:

What do u mean?!when the update reaches Tue middle east;that time I will get it !!!?
If I format my phone will that help?!.
Please tell me cause when the 4.3 update launched in Spain I got it directly at that time!!

CaliW says:

Still nothing in the UK, HTC claiming that the updates would be rolled out from end of January, sure I remember them announcing updates would be released before the end of January? Oh well, not that fussed really as phone works really well without the update, so just going to wait and try to stop hitting the "check for updates"
