At a media event in New Delhi, Asus launched the ZenFone 2 in the Indian market, with several variants of the device — including the one with 4GB RAM — set to be available in the country.
The entry-level ZenFone 2 (ZE550ML) offers a 5.5-inch 720p display, quad-core 1.8GHz Intel Atom Z3560 CPU, 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage along with dual-SIM connectivity, microSD card slot, 13MP camera, 5MP front camera and a 3,000mAh battery, and be available in the country for ₹12,999.
The ZE551ML variant will launch in three configurations: 5.5-inch full-HD display, Intel Z3560 CPU clocked at 1.8GHz, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal memory, 13MP camera with dual-LED flash, 5MP front shooter and a 3,000mAh battery for ₹14,999. The model with 4GB RAM and the 2.3GHz Z3580 CPU along with 32GB storage will set buyers back ₹19,999, with the same device offered with 64GB storage for ₹22,999. All three models will have dual-SIM and LTE connectivity, and run Android 5.0 out of the box. Asus has also launched a slew of accessories such as external power banks, cases and camera accessories like Lolliflash and Zenflash.
At the event, Asus CEO Jerry Shen revealed that since the launch of the first-gen ZenFone last year, over 10 million units have been sold globally, with Asus now selling over 1.5 million units every month. The addition of the ZenFone 2 will flesh out Asus' offerings in the country, and challenge Motorola's Moto G in this segemnt.
Pre-orders for the ZenFone 2 are now live on Flipkart, with the retailer offering several launch day incentives.
