Kindle Fire HD

Amazon has started rolling out an over-the-air update to its Fire HD tablets in the US, UK and Germany that adds the company's Firefly options to those devices. Firefly is already available on the Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 tablets, along with its Fire smartphone.

Here's a look at what Fire HD tablet owners have to look forward to with this new update:

  • Firefly can be used to recognize over 245,000 movies and TV episodes, 160 live TV channels, and 35 million songs – in mere seconds.
  • Firefly uses IMDb for X-Ray for movies and TV shows to show actors, plot synopses, and related content. And customers can easily add titles to Watch List or download and start watching content immediately.
  • Firefly uses Amazon Music's rich catalog to show information about the artist and allows customers to play songs, add them to their Wish Lists or download songs to their Fire HD.

Amazon says that the Firefly update will take several weeks to roll out to all Fire HD owners.
