Google Play Music is a multi-use app that both comes as a pre-installed music app on all Google-certified Android devices but can also be installed and updated from the Play Store on older devices. It works with music files that have been loaded on your phone manually, with streaming from your own collection uploaded to Google Play Music, with purchased music from the Play Store or even through a paid monthly subscription service to access even more music.

All Access is Google's subscription music service that lives within Google Play Music, giving users access to millions of songs for a flat monthly fee of $10. Those who subscribe to Google Play Music All Access have the ability to stream, download, create playlists and share tracks, regardless of whether they actually own them or are simply accessing them with their monthly subscription. All Access can be used across 10 devices tied to a single account, but playback is limited to one device at a time.

Google Play Music has evolved pretty dramatically since its first unveiling in mid-2011 when it came as an invite-only service, but is well-regarded as being a great all-in-one app choice for music lovers of all kinds. On September 29, 2015, Google announced the Google Play Music Family Plan, which allows families to use the service on up to six devices for $14.99 per month.

YouTube Red's $10 subscription is the best money I spend on entertainment every month

If you watch YouTube at all, you should be paying for Red. The content on YouTube is great, diverse and plentiful. The pretenses for consuming that content aren't perfect, though — wading through ads and always needing a connection in order to watch are a big negative mark on what is otherwise a...

Four tricks worth stealing from Apple Music

"Good artists copy; great artists steal," is as true for music apps as it is for musical artists. If a feature is popular on one music app, it doesn't take long for it to start appearing on other apps. This happens more for big, bold features than it does for the sophisticated little touches...

Our lives are filled with subscriptions, but none can impact our lives quite like a music subscription. We wake up to music. We go about our days to music. If we're happy, we're singing along. If we're sad, we're crooning. If we're mad, we will scream out every last note. Music makes us better,...

Artists secure 5 years of increased payment from streaming services

This is a big win for the music industry. Streaming services such as Spotify and Google Play Music are things that I use every single day, and when you think about it, they really have changed the way people purchase and listen to music. Opening an app on your phone and having access to millions...

How to upload and download music on Google Play Music

Start streaming: How to store your existing media in the cloud

Buying DVDs and CDs made a lot of sense a decade ago. What do you do with them now? Years ago, the thought of watching movies on a phone was absurd — our connections were too slow, or they took up too much space. Today, if we still buy movies, many of us are choosing to eschew physical media for...
