Phil Nickinson News Thursday, 04 March 2010

For all of you Verizon Droid Eris fans out there chomping at the bit for Android 2.1 and the new HTC Sense to be released for your phone, know that it's not far off. A build was leaked on XDA Developers (normally a home for GSM devices, but always friendly to HTC hackery) and...

Apple Inc. v HTC: Day 1

Phil Nickinson News Tuesday, 02 March 2010

Now that Apple's lawsuit against HTC is all of six hours or so old, it's time to reflect at what exactly has happened. And we can sum it up in the following sentence: Apple has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against HTC.

Really, that's it at this point. You can still go out and buy the myTouch 3G. Or buy the Nexus One from Google. HTC is still shipping phones from Asia. Steve Jobs isn't going from home to home, collecting contraband. (Yet.) That's going to take an order from a judge. It's not out of...

HTC's new Sense user interface ported to the Motorola Droid

Phil Nickinson News Sunday, 28 February 2010

It's hardly shocking, but HTC's new Sense user interface (read our review here) has been ported onto the Motorola Droid. It's still a little buggy, but damned if its not the same ROM (more or less) that was ripped off the HTC Desire and thrust...

HTC Desire ROM leaked, ported, and we squee like little girls with Nexus Ones

Phil Nickinson News Saturday, 20 February 2010

When HTC announced the Desire last week at Mobile World Congress, it basically was billed as the Nexus One, with Sense (and a track pad to boot). But those of us with Nexus Ones knew it would only be a matter of time before we'd get to play, and that day is here.

Paul from...

HTC Desire ROM gets ported to Nexus One, brings Sense with it

Casey Chan News Wednesday, 17 February 2010

If you didn't know, the HTC Desire and the Nexus One are very, very similar. They rock the same internals and aside from a few buttons here and an optical trackpad there, they're basically the same device. So it's not that surprising to find that the Desire ROM has been ported...

AC @ MWC: Hands-on with the HTC Legend

Phil Nickinson Featured Wednesday, 17 February 2010

Here's an up-close look at the HTC Legend, the successor to the venerable Hero. An optical trackpad (under the thumb here) replaces the trackball, and it features Android 2.1 and the latest version of HTC's Sense user interface. The shell is carved out of a single piece of aluminum. More pics after the break.

HTC Desire Brings Sense to a Nexus One Body

Phil Nickinson News Tuesday, 16 February 2010

The HTC Desire received its official blessing today, addressing two things that had been gnawing at us regarding the current king of the hill, the Nexus One: What would it have been like if it had HTC's Sense UI? And is there a more elegant solution than a trackball?

The Desire answers both of those things -- and then some -- with the introduction of an all-new version of Sense running atop Android 2.1.

That sound good? Click through for...

HTC improves Sense with latest offerings

Phil Nickinson News Tuesday, 16 February 2010

With HTC's announcement of the Legend and Desire comes a new and improved version of its Sense user interface.

The biggest change is the addition of "Friendstream," HTC's new answer to social networking, aggregating your Flicker, Twitter and Facebook friends in an elegant and easy-to-use widget. The Peep Twitter client is on board, and you can upload video directly to...

Phil Nickinson News Wednesday, 10 February 2010

Sure, everybody and their mother is getting pinch-to-zoom these days. But here's one you probably haven't seen yet: It's Android 2.1 and HTC's Sense interface on a Hero, and you can pinch-to-zoom within Sense itself. That lets you see...

Phil Nickinson News, Podcast Sunday, 10 January 2010

Here's a special treat for you folks from us here at CES in Las Vegas. Casey Chan and I got a chance to chat-it up with Eric Lin, HTC's global PR and online community manager, shortly after the launch of the Nexus One. We also talk some about the future of HTC and Android, whether the Nexus One could beat the HD2 in a fight, and what's up with your phone getting an...

Is HTC bringing Sense UI in widget form?

Phil Nickinson News Wednesday, 16 December 2009

We didn't think too much of it when we first told you that HTC put the kibash on Beautiful Widgets, which very much brought HTC's Sense UI to non-HTC Android phones. LevelUp Studio on its Web site says the design was "inspired by the HTC interface (Sense UI)." No arguing with that.

But what if HTC has its own plans to bring Sense to non HTC phones in its own widget...

Beautiful Widgets is no more

Phil Nickinson News Wednesday, 16 December 2009

Our man Jeremy broke the bad news to us this morning: As you can see above, Beautiful Widgets is no more. It basically made your Android home screen look like HTC's Sense UI (which you get on the Droid Eris and Hero lines, as well as on newer Windows phones), but it seems developer

Verizon HTC Desire Spotted, Runs Sense UI

Looks like Verizon is ramping up for some major Android releases. Along with the Droid (which we're expecting very soon), this in-the-wild photo is of the HTC Desire which clearly houses Verizon branding and runs the HTC Sense UI. We have absolutely no details to share with you but we've seen this device before in the hands of Google CEO Eric Schmidt. You can see that the...

HTC Hero: Software & HTC Sense Review

Casey Chan Featured Thursday, 15 October 2009

We’ve already discussed the hardware of the HTC Hero in our previous review and in short, it’s great. The wonderful build quality and high-end design will certainly make it appealing to tons of users, new and long time smartphone users alike. But what makes the HTC Hero truly special is the software, HTC Sense.

We’ve

HTC Sense UI Not Coming to Google-Branded Phones, Sorry G1 & myTouch 3G

Casey Chan News Tuesday, 30 June 2009

To clarify on our previous report that the amazing HTC Sense UI was going to be "available to on some other existing devices", those 'other existing devices' won't include the T-Mobile G1 or myTouch 3G. Sadly, HTC Sense will not be available for Google-branded phones and both the G1 and myTouch 3G are Google experience phones. The reasoning is due to licensing restrictions...

Will HTC Sense UI Be Available on Other Devices ?

Casey Chan News Thursday, 25 June 2009

Undoubtedly, the biggest hit of the HTC Hero announcement had to be the new HTC Sense UI. It was all kinds of slick, sexy, and smooth--to say we were more than impressed is to sell our reaction short--we're as excited to use the Sense UI as we were for the launch of Android back in October.

So color us jubilated when HTC CEO Peter Chou dropped this nugget:

"HTC sense will be available on some...

HTC Hero Release Dates, Not a Google Experience Phone?

Casey Chan News Wednesday, 24 June 2009

To keep you guys updated on the target release dates for the HTC Hero: The Hero is supposed to hit European shores with T-Mobile and Orange sometime in July. Asia will enjoy the Hero later in the summer. And yes, our lovely continent North America will lag behind once again with an even-later-than-Asia 2009 target date. Sigh. Why does Android always come last for us?
