Samsung has been working on their “Samsung Approved for Enterprise” suite of applications since October 2010 and with the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy Note and Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 for North America Samsung has confirmed both devices have been approved for SAFE.
“More and more employees are demanding greater choice in the mobile devices they carry for both work and personal use. Newly announced Samsung Galaxy Note™ and Galaxy Tab™ 7.7 become the first “Samsung Approved for Enterprise” devices marketed directly to consumers
LAS VEGAS – January 10, 2012 – Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung Mobile), the No.1 mobile phone provider in the United States, today announced at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) the Samsung Galaxy Note and Galaxy Tab 7.7 will be the first Samsung Approved for Enterprise (SAFE) devices provided to consumers who wish to use their own mobile devices in both their business and personal lives.
“Releasing the SAFE-certified Galaxy Note and Galaxy Tab 7.7 is a win-win situation for U.S. businesses and their employees,” said Tim Wagner, Vice President and General Manager of B2B Sales for Samsung Mobile. “More and more employees are demanding greater choice in the mobile devices they carry for both work and personal use. Their standards for performance and design are high and their employer’s security criteria are even higher. Both the Galaxy Note and the Galaxy Tab 7.7 live up to these standards and provide a ‘SAFE Landing’ for the large number of users moving away from competitive platforms.”
SAFE is an exclusive suite of security features delivering enterprise-friendly capabilities above and beyond standard Android platform features to safeguard sensitive data and communications such as:
- Mobile Device Management (MDM) – Maximizing flexibility. SAFE addresses even businesses’ most challenging management and security concerns through relationships with leading MDM providers such as SOTI.
- On-Device Encryption – Maximizing security. Samsung offers AES 256-bit hardware-based encryption to mitigate the elevated risks of virtual and physical attack while the device is used for enterprise purposes. SAFE™ devices help prevent unauthorized access to mobile data by leveraging on-device encryption, including data on the microSD™ card.
- Virtual Private Network (VPN) – Maximizing accessibility. Samsung works with several global VPN providers such as Cisco™, Juniper® and others to enable fast, secure and reliable global corporate connectivity. SAFE™ devices support protocols and authentication measures for better security and faster access for enhanced off-site productivity.
- Corporate Email/Calendar/Contacts – Maximizing efficiency. SAFE devices offer extensive support for communication systems such as Microsoft® Exchange ActiveSync®. Samsung SAFE™ devices support additional capabilities above and beyond stock smartphone and tablet operating systems, maximizing the efficiency and productivity for enterprise users.
SAFE was first introduced to Samsung’s enterprise customers in October 2011. As more organizations are adopting “bring your own device” (BYOD) policies, Samsung recognized that consumers are increasingly interested in devices that effectively and elegantly meet their personal and business mobile needs.
For these consumers, the Galaxy Note delivers a new category of smartphone to the U.S. market, with a larger screen, and new user input technology with the innovative S Pen™, while retaining a pocketable design. With the S Pen™, which accurately mimics ink-pen and a pad of paper experience, individuals can “handwrite” important notes or edits to files during business meetings, or let their creative juices flow while brainstorming concepts and designs – and instantly share them on AT&T’s 4G LTE network.
The Android 3.2™ Honeycomb powered Galaxy Tab 7.7 boasts a brilliant Super AMOLED™ Plus touch screen display, a 1.4GHz dual core processor, rear-facing three megapixel camera with LED flash and front-facing 2 megapixel camera for video chat capabilities, and an integrated IR blaster allowing it to serve as the ultimate interactive smart remote. At just 7.9 millimeters thin and weighing only 340 grams (roughly 12 ounces), this tablet is one of the most portable devices for a truly mobile workforce using the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network.
Media attending CES 2012 wanting to learn more about how SAFE operates on the Samsung Galaxy Note and Galaxy Tab 7.7 are invited to attend a media roundtable hosted by Samsung Mobile on Wednesday, January 11 from 2:00 – 3:00 pm PT in meeting room N239C at the Las Vegas Convention Center. This roundtable will feature Timothy Wagner, Vice President and General Manager of B2B Sales for Samsung Mobile and Ron Hassanwalia, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for security software partner SOTI Inc. as well as live demos of how SAFE and security programs like SOTI operate on these new devices.
